Title: GoCardless
Post by: David Salkeld on April 17, 2014, 01:17:04 pm
Hi All,

I've just started using GoCardless for Direct Debit.
Anyone been using them for a while and rate it.
I think it could be good for those nice but forgetful customers. I have a few and am trying to get them on Direct Debit.

Thanks
David

Good overall. They need to sort out references on the sign up process, when they have done it I will start asking all my customers to sign up. As it stands if I did that it would be a mess very quickly - we only ask bad payers at the moment. 25 signed up, no problems so far.

Not managed to sign anyone up as yet after about 8weeks custys are much happier using bacs and PayPal the trust their own bank rather than a company they have never heard off and putting their bank details in .

Also those that don't use bacs but use PayPal it is even easier if they have the mobile app , Yes it costs but currently I am spending £70:00 less on Diesel a month and I now only collect 1hr a month instead of 20 . Mike

GoCardless puts you in control though. Bacs and Paypal are fine but people are idiots, I couldn't count the amount of time I have wasted trying to match a payment to a customer because they neglected to use the reference number I gave them when setting up their bacs payment.

Gocardless is a great idea but in reality i'm finding that no one is interested in paying the window cleaner by direct debit.
Out of all my customers only 2 have asked to go dd, so unless you enforce it I don't see it being very popular.

So far I have a 10% pick up on it. That is faster growth than I have on Bacs.

On my payment cards it clearly states Use First Line Of Address As pay ref and they all do so it is fairly straight forward .

My custys are using PayPal because of the sheer simplicity in paying via PayPal . Mike

Try taking £1,000 they'll ring you up and tell you who they are.

Brilliant GO Cardless!

I am just using it for 'problem' payers and its transformed how I feel about them. I prefer bacs as it don't cost me a penny. But im phasing out cheques soon and hoping DD will replace that.

Got 10 on the system already; all seem quite positive.

The cost is minimal.
I look at it as it's less than the cost of one 'not today' a month...

I know its not strictly correct but why dont we have a direct debit form and enter their details ourselves? Ive just signed up to my own to see how easy it is...and it was but some people cant be bothered. If we had a form they filled out, address, name, email and bank details it would all be done...

Technically illegal.  ;D

But yes it's easy to do.

Have had some issues with GoCardless over the wank bank holiday weekend.

Got one through - no way to identify the customer as per usual - sent her an email which bounces back. Mailer demon, email does not exist! Cant even phone them to see what is going on cause they are lazy w****rs bankers.

They really should sort this out.

Nope. I take it on the first of the month.
Paid before I clean. (Mostly)

Surely its better for us to enter the customers ourselves then with some kind of form

The issue is their is not a clearly defined space for a payment reference such as first line of address .

IMHO GoCardess have a poorly designed website which hardly instills  any confidence when trying to get custys to sign up with their bank details .

Personally if someone was asking me to sign up I would be hard pushed to to idle my bank details to a company I had never heard off . Mike

I don't see the problem with references, if you can't match the email address to the customer just email them for the details, you only need to do it once!

That is what I do. The problem is it moves control back to the customer. The ones I have identified most easily have come through while I am at the computer, I can send an email immediately - making it part of the sign up process, why can't GoCardless automate that?

So far I have 1 with an email that does not exist and 1 no-reply. So 2 out of 25, that's an 8% fail rate.

I am rolling this out verrrrrry slowly, with an 8% fail rate I don't really have a choice.

For bacs my failure to identify payments is waaaay less than 1%.

Yup, been using it since September.
Signed up my 101st regular customer yesterday.
I love it!

POLE, HOW the HELL did you get 101 signed up on it.   I have a well written invoice and still cant get them to sign.  I have 6 on GCardless but I really want 150 to 200 on it.

What are you doing differently or what are you saying to get so many signed up?

Matt

Can't say I'm doing anything special bud.
Bad payers it was a case of do it or I'm dumping you (politer than that)
Everyone else, I just 'sold' it.
Oh, and a few I said we were using GCL  instead of a price increase.
I started out wanting £1k a month on it, sailed past that quicker than I thought I would.
Then wanted 100 customers and hit that last week.
Targets hit. Happy days.
Oh, and all new customers on it. (Very few exceptions)

GoCardless sorted my issue without delay this morning. Probably would not have been an issue if it wasn't a bank holiday.

Is it just 1% per transaction?
Title: Re: GoCardless

Is it just 1% per transaction?

Yup. Upto a maximum of £2 per transaction.
£10, you get £9.90
£100, you get £99
£1,000 you get £998

That is really good to be fair. I need to sort this out. I have it setup just not sold it to the customers yet

Got 48 signed up now within about 3 months. Quite happy with that, but would like a few more pita customers signed up.

It would be nice if there was an address line as one of the options when signing up. Going to email them now to see what can be done. If we all send them one it might push them into doing something

I spoke to someone about just that on Tuesday. Think I'll join you in sending an email too.

This is the response I just received, so it's obviously possible to get address info if you know what you're doing.

Hi Lance,

Thanks for your feedback, and sorry to hear you’re having issues with the service.

If you’re working with a web developer, or if you are one yourself, you’d be able to capture this information as part of an integration built with our API. Unfortunately when using an embedded authorisation link, this isn’t possible.

I’ve passed this feedback on to our developers, and in the meantime please let me know if I can help with anything else.

Thanks,
Helen
