cbm240e booster pump. i no there are a lot of guys say this pump is good but how do u rig it up can i use normal hose on the inlet and outlet? or do i need to use copper pipe? i have a 4020 ro i fort it was a 4040 but its not i been told that a diaphragm pump wont be no good so i need a garden hose booster pump i want something that is not gonna collapse my hose but powerful enough to fill my tank up quick and need good presser to to keep me ro and resin clean any one got any answers? most i can spent is £300 but cheaper the better thanks james. ???
-
and what psi and flo rate do i need to fill a 250L tank up quick or quicker? and how much pressure does the hose collapse at ? sorry for all the boring questions but i need them answered thanks guys
-
Whats the pressure of your tap without a pump?
Just connect it up to your tap or what ever you connect your RO to using standard garden hose. The pump has 1 inch fittings you will have to buy reducing bush's
-
and could i use a diaphragm pump course the window cleaning warehouse said it wont be no good for a 4020 ro is that true or a they trying to put me off so i buy something really exspensive :-X

well it does not come out very fast im not sure what the psi off my tap water is but not great
-
whats a garden hose booster pump when its at home?
-
No one really knows, but don't worry, the suppliers will charge you top dollar for anything old pump they flog you.
-
well i need a booster pump that connects to standard hose but one bloke said i need to use copper pipe as it will collapse the hose but the pump is only 5 bar witch is only what 70 psi i can wee faster then that so i cant see why i need copper pipe im just getting told all different things from ppl and i don't no who is right or wrong and i cant afford to spent out loads off money on something that is not gonna work.so i need to understand everything about and get the right pump before i buy ???
-
what do u guys use ?
-
I use the clarke CBM2040E pump for 5 years never failed or no problems. its connected to garden hose re-inforced basically its just the garden hose thats slightly stronger than standard.
i cant see why the window cleaning warehouse have said do not use that with a 4021 ro membrane, they still need about 80 odd psi even for the ultra-low pressure membrane.
Dont get mixed up by PSI and flow though, just because your tap doesn't flow fast.. it doesnt mean the pressure is bad .. pressure and water flow are two different things.
... for example you can buy different window cleaning pumps to pump water up your pole both may be 100 psi but some pump different amounts of water per min, some 5 liters some about 4 liters etc.
-
You wont need copper pipe just garden hose , I have a similar pump from lidl £50 80psi and works really well for my 4040 .
Long as you are drawing from a pressure fed supply and not from a static supply your hose will not collapse .

Is the Clarke one a diaphragm pump? Because James says he been advised not to use a diaphragm pump.
We tried using one of the pumps off our system on our ro, but it actually slowed it down. But the pump was old.
James could you tap be slowing the flow? How do you connect to the tap?

Ours is early days yet its two years old. I'll let everyone know if it develops a fault. It probably makes about 7000 litres a week or more.
Of course you could stick with the CBM 240E, some of the lads here recon they're quality.
-
It hasn't slowed my system down it dramatically increased the pure water flow.. lots use that pump on here i do not no why he was been advised against it by just because hes using a 4021.
The pump i am using was advised to me on here 5 years ago... and by Gaps water, lowered my tds quite a bit

go to the bottom of the page here james, you will find lots of text telling u about the membranes we use as window cleaners. This may help you, its not talking about pumps but it might gasp you some more information about your setup.

that's exactly what the guy said to me at window cleaning wear house its more likely to slow it dawn so this is why im trying to go for one of them big pumps but i went to a place close to were i live called espa pumps so i asked them and they said u wont be able to us a big pump like the clark cbm 240e cause it will collapse your hose it needs to have a copper pipe to stop it from collapse so me not knowing sod all about pumps believed him now u lot are saying its fine with slightly heavy duty hose and if it is then i will get this i think i need flo more then psi because flo means volume and psi means pressure when i spoke to cleaning wear house they said they only got one pump they use and sell but u have to run it off a battery well surely u can use a transformer i feel like im going round in circles with these places and another guy said its to then then at espa pumps they showed me another pump and i fort this is more like it but then they said that it is 5 bar so its to powerful for u and fort 5 bar thats only 70 psi so dont no what pump to get or witch way to go.grrrrrrrr

sorry i didn't get back to u dave had to go out yer i need to lean a bit more about it all only been wfp just over 3 months now so the pump u got is a good pump and it would be ok for me and if i use some good strong hose will i be ok?

ok thats interesting well im glad i got u guys to give me some answers cause im sure the blokes at them shops ether aint got a clue or there just making it up so i have to buy something stupidly expensive witch sounds about right the guy at window cleaning warehouse said that they have a pump but its £1100 :o and then said to me that's cheap i mean im not a farmer looking to pump water to my crops i just want a booster pump to fill me tank up quicker like im gonna spent that much on a pump.

thanks for the links it looks good but it seems a bit noisy lol or is it because there filming really close to it witch makes it sound noisier.
-
well thanks guys for all your info much appreciated dave if u could perhaps tell me a bit more about that pump like is it noisy how much faster it is and does it bring dawn your tds quit a lot and could i use micro bore because that's a lot more stiffer then standard hose so would that work thanks i mean if its working for u guys it must be good right.

Had mine eight years, and now shows signs of failure. I aim to refurbish this one, as new they are pricey.
-
James,
I use the clarke pump CBM240E with just garden hose that you can buy anywhere B&Q and such, its never collapsed my hose at all lol.
If you dont want to spend as much as £300 you can get the CBM pump without the electronic control but i think its better with it as it will switch the pump off if something happens like.. someone switches the tap off thinking whats that doing on etc stopping the pump from ru nning dry. http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cbm240-1in-multi-stage-water-pump its only about 200 pound without the electronic control.
People have said on here its not noisey ... i think it is really for what it is mines set up in my garage even with the door shut i can just about hear it outside but it is in a boxed unit, i will try take some photo's later if i can.
My tds used to be about 30-31 before using the pump, i dont have a lot of water flow from my tap and even still its not running in ideal conditions it brings my tds down from 30 - around 17-20 depending on the time of the year, thats the lowest i could get it to. I dont how much yours will come down as its too hard to tell.
so window cleaning warehouse have said they have a pump for £1100 -- are they joking? thats outrageous!
-
The cbm240e is a centrifugal pump and is ideal for job , im sure you can get better ones with a higher psi for more money but probably not worth it .
My lidl pump is uncannily similar to the cbm240 but no electronics ......three year guarantee too .
-
Has anyone carried out repairs on a CBM240E?
I wonder if the electronics box on top could be salvaged and put with a new basic pump?

i no what a joke dave they said that a small pump wont work and said well the best one we got is £1100 pounds as soon as they said that i new straight away they were just trying to get there hands on my money i done a test round my mates house with his diaphragm pump witch they said would not work on 4021 ro so fort i see and have a go and guess what it did work i recon it doubled the amount of water going into my tank so it just shows that the window cleaning wear house don't no much so i no that a small diaphragm pump will work on my system and it will fill my tank up in half the time but i still think i want to get the cbm240e pump as it even more powerful and will most probably bring my tds dawn even more before resin that's good to that i can use normal hose it means now i can go and get one off these pumps knowing i have not got something that's not gonna be right thanks dave for all your time and help much appreciated mate ;D

8 years is pretty good i think i will be happy if mine last that long. when i get it.

ideally you want to see what the TDS is with a pump although the flow may be high u also want to reduce the tds.
I changed my membrane over the weekend to 4021 from a 4040 with the low pressure membrane, using a pump it worked great i am now getting a tds of 12 however it 4021 does produce water slower than my 4040 but this doesnt matter for me as i have static setup in my garage it can run all day if needs be.

yes i did this with the diaphragm pump and my tds was 14. without the pump it was 17 so not much different but better but with the cbm240e i recon i could get it dawn to 7 or something close as the cbm240e is probably a lot more powerful then the diaphragm pump.

17 isnt that bad at all anyway if you have low flow from the tap.
what membrane are you using HF5 HF4 or a different one?

James, as far as I'm aware we dont sell pumps for £1100... Are you sure you weren't being quoted for a full 4040 RO pumped system and not just a pump? I will find out tomorrow who you have been speaking to, our guys are trained by the pump manufacturers and have a very good knowledge of what works an what dosent for our industry.

im sure you do have a good knowledge on pumps but knowing about the product and actually using it on different systems is a big difference i take it the bloke i spoke to has not used a diaphragm pump on a 4021 system because when i tested it out it doubled the filling time on my system rather then slowing it dawn like he said. when you find out who i spoke to.... let him no it does work very well so at least when someone else asks him he will know for next time ;D

James, do you live in a flat? If this is yourself then you were being advised on how to produce around 400ltrs per hour (a lot of water in a short amount of time). To produce this quantity you would need a fairly high end RO (hence the quoted amount, not just a pump).
Also filling up in a flat your water pressure/flow could be pretty bad which would make anything seem better!! When you say a diaphragm pump, which make and model have you tested this with? A standard 12v van pole pump? If this is the case they only have a flow rate of 5ltrs per min which is well below the membranes minimum requirement (12ltrs per min), this would be a pretty amazing result if this is the case.

Which membrane needs 12 litres per min stephen?

ok well thanks for the info Stephen i do live in a flat yes so i need a pump that can deliver 12 liters a min on a 4021 ro is that correct and what can i use instead of buying a whole new 4040 ro what pump would u recommend? and what would happen if i keep using it at under 12 liters a min? thanks james.
