Ive used my Alltec Advance for ages , but I think for the first time a VAC has just blown. :(
Right at the end of the job, thank goodness!
It started banging and popping with a burning smell. That was vac 1, vac 2 seems to be ok, but not tried vac 3 as I have just got back in.
So sounds like the vac had blown??
Thanks
-
'Fraid so. Sounds classic to me.
-
Or......the brushes have worn down and arced. I have replaced brushes at this stage and saved the motor most of the time.
-
I saw the title ...... Has my VAC blown and instantly expected the thread to be about a Jag 6.6 :)
-
Ive taken it in to be serviced.
Its been a brilliant machine, and thats the only thing to have gone wrong in 800+ hours.

Me too ;)

You might think that.........
I couldn't possibly comment :P :P
;D ;D

Ironically, having used my Jaguar 6.6 for 16 months (vac trouble free), I expected the post to be about something else for a change ........ and was pleasantly surprised to see that every other make of machine does not work perfectly well forever, after all :o

Hi Guys
I have mamanged to get over 1900 hourds out of my Altec vacs and previously with Extracta I was spending more on vacs than chemicals, so I can't be considered a good machine maintainer.
I think as John Martin has alluded to, it is the stack which largely prevents the ingress of water and fluff, which has served me well.
Cheers
Doug

I've still got my first machine, it's over 30 years old and never had a pump or a vac change, still use it as a back up, Extract-o-Matic.

Hi Richie,
If u don't mind me asking Richie why did u think it was a jag motor?
-
Because this appears to be 'bash the Jag' central ;) ;D
-
I thought with all the stuff going on with the church at the minute it was bash the bishop central :D
-
The reason i half expected this thread to be about the Jag 6.6 vac motors is because over the past few months there have been many many posts about on going problems with them even after the upgrade which was supposed to have solved the vac blowing problem,
PAUL........pmsl
-
Richie is right, that there have been many posts about blown vacs, many from two people though !!
Not knowing how many Jaguar 6.6 machines have been sold, I would suggest it is not a problem common to the machine but more to the individual and how it is being used. Mine is not completely cleaned out each time but I ensure a bare minumum of care is taken, when filling and emptying ......... I like to replace my machines when I see something better, not because it dies on me ::)roll
-
There is also another guy selling a Jag in the for sale section who has just replaced 2 vac motors and lets be honest nobody is going to say anything on Cleantalk about it are they.
-
I know other guys that are having the same on going problems with the Jag vac motors blowing. Performance wise the machine are good, they just need to get the over heating problem sorted once n for all
-
I don't understand the overheating problem ....... as I said before, I have used mine to clean £1600 worh of corridor so no furniture to move and machine was inside with me and only switched off to refill/empty ........ that never overheated the machine ........ but then my stack pipes were not congested with fluff & bits, due to vacuuming those off the carpet before extracting ::)roll
Richie, you are right to thnk that problems may not reach CT forum but I saw the dead Jaguar 6.6 photos before they went public, so I am sure I would have heard about other problems !! I have had 3 Jag owners message me direct, with questions on daily maintenance but never on any actual faults.
At the end of the day, we all have out favoured machines, solution & suppliers ....... does not mean all the others are bad or wrong ;)

Isn't that just the going rate for 3 average hallways? ???
:P

Got to laugh at the so called up grades anybody else would call it a Recall due to a defect.
-
Actually ... just in case anyone is bidding on one of the Jags on e-bay ( not Ian's one ) , I've noticed it appears to be fitted with 5.7 ! two stages , if u toggle through the photos u can see an internal pic . ( 6.6 motors don't have black plastic upper section )
Its likely he stuck in cheap vacs to get rid of it as cheaply as possible after 6.6 failed .
Other than that it appears to have the Solutions upgrades ...
The silencer is replaced with two bits of black tube ...
There is black marker on the body to indicate not to fill beyond this point or ingress will occur ... god knows whats suppose to happen if you go below the lower mark .
There is some kind of shrimp net in the waste tank to try to filter debris ...
And it has the ' washer for a dump valve handle upgrade '
I'm not bashing Chris ... honest :-X

Mine has not been modified, so not even sure what would be changed !!
-
I diddn't pay that much for mine brand new ! Lol
-
Its not Rockert Science! some people on here Die hard Nick White folowers and wont have anything detremental said about his beloved Jaguar, But ive had my Brand new Scorpion that was supplied to me through solutions last august, I have not had the slightest problem with any of the vacume motors or any other of the components in the machine! I have an older Scorpion which is nearly six years old and is only on its second set of vacs without a single problem to the vac motors! My Jaguar on the other hand lasted two months before the first number two vacume expired and then every two months it seamed to blow another on a regular basis! If i were not looking after my machines why are the Scorpions not having problems ?
Sorry but its just a design fault and nothing more! but rather than accept there is a problem with the Jag solutions prefere to blaim there customers!
-
Will have to agree to disagree on that point Stuart, as mine is the same design and if it were a design fault, mine should have the same problem !!
Nothing to do with being a follower of Nick's, as we have fallen out more than once ....... but impossible to say anything detrimental, when machine functions perfectly ;)
-
Chris
Thats fair enough mate, but it seems there are a lot of folk getting rid of them! they are always being advertised on the forums! not somthing that was evident with the good old Scorpys!
All i know is when my jaguar came back from solutionst the second time it had been filled full of air holes in the rear of the machine and the silencer had been removed!
They dont do that for no reason do they ?
everyone thats had a problem with them including myself has had problems with the number two motor
One further thing! I do miss the Jaguar it was a powerful machine, just a pity mine wasn't as reliable as my scorpion
