Yes and no. It will only get bigger though cos google have made it their pet. :)

Facebook is people you used to know.

Twitter is people you want to know.

Google+ is people you should know.

Personally I hate Google+.

Like a lot of people who feel the same, I still use it - - because Google is king & ignoring it will affect your search rankings eventually,..

Hate is a strong word. Why would anyone hate a social media site?

I have found that it is not as natural to navigate as Facebook. Not sure about twitter, I don't use it 'cause I hate it.  ;)

As for using it to advertise, I never have.....yet. Like you say if you want to remain searchable on Google you are going to need a page eventually. So far though it seems to be entirely populated by Yank nerds, billionaires and the Dalai Lama.
