I posted this in another topic earlier today but thought it could possibly deserve a thread of its own............
Many years ago in the early 80's I was out learning to 'sell' cleaning with a guy who went on to become the Chairman of one of the BIG nationals.
I was always flabbergasted to find that almost every site we went to he could calculate the square meterage accurately without a tape measure or even pacing it out.
I begged him to tell me how he did it and he left me stewing for weeks.
Eventually he told me and I've never forgotten it to this day.............
I can now walk into a large open plan office area (and many other types of area too) and 99% of the time I can tell you EXACTLY what it measures.
A big pat on the back for the first person who can tell me what this guy taught me........................
-
When you make the appointment ask the client ???
-
Nope...............it can even be done if no-one is there.
-
count the desks
-
That wouldn't give you the size of the area
-
You have to count something (windows, desks, doors) and then you would be able to estimate the size of the room, floor…
-
My next guess was going to be windows >:(
-
I'm not sure how counting windows and doors can give you an area ??????????????
But it really is SO simple
-
is it simple maths, like pacing around the length and width and multiplying to get paces, if you know how big your pace is you got the answer ??? ???
-
Nope.................you don't have to move an inch
-
I'm not sure how counting windows and doors can give you an area ??????????????
But it really is SO simple
You have to count perimeter first, then the size of the area
-
I can see this taking all night.............
A clue - you can't always do it but 99% of the time you can.
-
Nope.................you don't have to move an inch
To estimate perimeter you would not have to move your finger
-
i dont know, you have baffled me, prob kick myself when you tell us the answer ::)
-
Is it the number of lights you rely on?
-
You're nearly there. You do, of course, have to know the perimeter dimensions to get the area but how do you get those exactly without a tape and without pacing.
-
I would estimate the number of doors I would be able to place alongside the wall
-
Nowt to do with doors or windows. Estimating the number of doors would still be a guess. This is spot on accurate.
-
Count the carpet tiles?
-
I am not too sure, but I think that the size of one door is equal to one yard
-
Its nothing to do with doors. Even if you knew the measurement of a door how can you be sure without measuring whether you could get 41 or 42 along a wall?
-
Pace it as you park up and make your way to reception
-
lololol................nope
-

The long wall usually full of windows, so estimate number of door you could fit between two or more windows and get the size of long wall, the short wall is even easier, number of doors or desks would help you…
Is it the number of lights you rely on?
-
It's nothing to do with doors, windows or desks. How can lights tell you?
This is ACCURATE, not an estimate.
-
...This is ACCURATE, not an estimate.
How accurate
-
VERY accurate when it can be done but remember it can only be done 99% of the time.
-
VERY accurate ...
Is it accurate by one inch, foot or yard?
-
On an area of, say, 500 sq metres it can be accurate to 1 or 2 square metres.
-
stand ther and point you digital measure at a wall
-
stand ther and point you digital measure at a wall
;D ;D
-
Nope. No tapes. Digital or otherwise.
-
........Many years ago in the early 80's ....
-
::) ???
-
he used a calculator
-
Ok. I suppose I'll have to tell you..............it's so simple...................
Count the ceiling tiles!!!
Given that the ceiling tiles are probably 1 metre X half a metre, work it out from that.
I said it could only be done 99% of the time. ;D ;D
-
he used a calculator
;D Are you kdding? ;D
-
??? :-X :'( ;D :D :D :D

If it has tiles down, then you can use them to measure, however other than that, I'm not sure, but looking forward to finding out!
Come on put us out of our misery!!!!
-
Already told you. look back a few posts.
-
Well that must be a record for this site.....3 pages of postings in a couple of hours!!!!
Do none of you work?? ;D ;D ;D

I was only jesting, by the way....i do know you all work very hard!!
