Title: Sunday collections.
Post by: suds window service on November 27, 2012, 06:22:44 am
Dark nights poor weather, I am thinking of collections on a Sunday to make use of day light hours.
Does anyone else collect on a Sunday?

                   Cheers Dave.

Sunday is a day if rest for many.
On Sunday have a day off like nearly everyone else.

Loads pf people work Sundays, now.
It's old fashioned to think it's a day of rest for "nearly everyone else". You'll be saying they've just finished a roast and are busy watching The Love Boat, next.

:0 spot on, but too many of our traditions are going, Sunday roast is staying :)

I have always tried to keep to, if I can't earn enough Monday to Friday then im doing something wrong. But each to their own i was just saying my thoughts on it I guess I'm a little old fashioned. Nothing wrong with either just my way is better :)

No, I don't do it myself. I'm probably too concerned with what the customer would think (and lazy) but if it suits, why not.

I used to hate collecting ,to me it was harder than actually cleaning the windows.       Lot easier now with customers paying online, and sending cheques.

I totally get what you are thinking but surely people are going to be disgruntled if you go knocking on their door on a sunday .

I am trying to push payment slips as much as possible so as to reduce collecting but only got a small percentage at the moment , Hope ur keeping busy Dave  ;D ;D. Mike

collecting to me is spending more time but not getting anymore money.
Encourage customers to pay online on post a cheque or BACS, text them the night before and leave money out.
Make it easy for them to pay you.

easiest thing to do is what you want to do, let your customers be the judge.

It aint that simple especially if you have a lot of oap customers not everyone has the internet or even a computer you can`t always catch everyone in at the times you go collecting in the week and ye some of us do struggle more than others for money we aren`t all on the same wage

Apalling?? News flash, good job not all your custies think like me eh? I think window cleaning isn't important enough for me to pay someone to do it. If it were MY windows, I'd clean 'em when light could no longer get through!!!

I try not to second guess my custies as we all see things differently. Funny old world innit? I just clean windows and collect cash. I don't care if a custy finds it "apalling" as long as they pay. if they don't like it, they can cancel, I'll replace 'em. Simple life.

We live in a different part of the country to those in the South.

We tried self addressed envelopes - no cheques. We tried stamped self addressed envelopes - no cheques. We tried online banking - no payment. One of the other local window cleaners just lets the amount add up. They eventually send a cheque, but they aren't happy with the amount. He refuses to collect - but they don't see their debt as their problem.

We collect on a Friday evening and there are some that just don't have any money to hand. We have explained the reason that we leave a ticket is to give them notice to have money available when we call. Occassionally we get the "all I've got is a £5.00 note. I'll pay you the balance with the next clean." I appreciate times are harder but they always have cash for the smokes , drink and takeaways.

Starting to take a harder line with these messers.

Many years ago I heard of a window cleaner that charged an extra 50p if he had to come back and collect the money. In those days he cleaned a 3 bed semi in Billingham for £3.00. The old dears used to leave his money on the bedroom window cill long before he cleaned them.

I wonder if we could apply the same principle in our business?

Never collected and never will. Stamped self addressed envelopes from day one and now getting lots of BACS payments, though you have to be very watchful of these.

People who set up a regular re-occuring payment are great. Those that pay you adhoc after you've been seem to 'forget' very often.

Partly my fault for being slack, but i've had one customer not pay me online since Feb this year. Only a small amount luckily.

For those that do collect, it's readily available funds if you're a bit strapped for cash, which i can understand. Personally though, I value my spare time far too much to be running round collecting monies owed.

Good idea spruce was considering charging extra more so for those that have avoided payment either when i clean windows and they are in and have yet to via bacs , 90% of my custys are going to see an increase next year so this will take care of some of them . Mike
