Title: if you have hot how often do you use it?
Post by: Lee Pryor on June 18, 2012, 05:22:31 pm
Just interested to know how much use your hot system gets over the year..

If commenting please let us know which hot system you have and roughly its running cost per week.

We will be going hot later in the year but i dont see it making much difference on regular cleans.

i the full concept 2O hotwash system and use hot on every clean, every day.  we get more complaints when we use cold only...  especially when i have staff cleaners cleaning instead of me

fogwash, use it all the time. Cost very little to run. Depends on how hot you have it and the price of gas at the time.maybe £1 a day?

I never understand this. I have had 2 complaints in 2 years. How many do you get using cold water?

This is interesting because I do have staff and do get complaints. When we go hot im hoping it wont speed us up but will give better consistency of finish. Also these big leaflet campaigns are great but the sheer amount of first cleans and con roofs gets hard going so im hoping it will take the strain off that to.

Also as we get bigger the odd day lost to temp in the winter will cost me more and more so this year is the time for us to take the plunge with going hot

its not cold that leaves windows bad, its the user, weve had cold on all our vans since 2003 and very rarely get complaints, if getting complaints regularly then staff need retraining, we would look at hot but only for 1st cleans or jobs that are done on a 3 monthly cycle or less often, other than that i dont think its needed (maybe winter time)

we clean very fast, and i employ guys to do the cleaning.  it means that the difference between fast but good and fast but  not good enough is slim so on a bad day, say if the employee had a night out...  they might get sloppy.

maybe on average we get 1 complaint per month.

That would be an average of 1 complaint per month too many for me.  ;)

we get about one complaint or re clean per 100 cleans so 1%. I dont think thats bad and I dont think my staff need re training. I do however think that the public are getting more and more petty as the years go on. I have high standards and expect a good job if im paying for things in my life but some people really do take the pee in the things they complain about, so im just looking at reducing those chances

Lee I cant coment on the original post in regards to the running costs.

But you know full well that customers are always going to complain over anything more so when they are new cleans
I know what your saying about first cleans, we are doing a lot of these right now and have been for months they are draining.

I only have cold systems, I was put off of hot by 2 companies that sell it including pure20 as they left spots all over my windows not the best advert, not to say I would not convert I just cant see the financial  gain or benefits to the customer as I am quite particular when I train my staff  :o

cold or hot if the staff member is sloppy they will get problems I would say more so with hot as it will soften more around the frames then factor in breaks to glass more so in very cold weather.
I encourage feedback from customers good or bad so we can learn from it

I'm sure this will bring words of scorn from the guys who have paid lots for a hot water system, but I use an immersion heater in the winter only, keeps it fom freezing.

I've only had 2 complaints in 9 years and one of those was someone who didn't want to admit she was skint.

I use a propane caravan heater every day and it cost around £56 per month to run (2x19 kg bottles)

I reckon you can get the same results on the glass with 1/4-1/3 less scrubbing.

I'd like to watch how you hot guys scrub, I can't see how you can scrub less on maintenance cleans  ???
I honestly believe you are all wasting your money on lightly soiled windows.
We can't see the dirt being removed and can't always see the results so I don't see how you can gauge your scrubbing times.

Sorry

we use hot every day and have only had one break from it.  that was myself when i turned the temp up to max on a first clean.  we have the water on warm rather than max and never had a a break since.

one way for lee to test it would be to install it on one van and then measure complaints from that van in comparison to the others...  you could even pick your team with the worst complaints ratio and give it to them.  see if it makes a difference...

I have to agree with you on these points.
the cost factor is it really worth it are is it just a luxury that makes the hot guys feel good.
Anyone want to come visit me to test it out side by side on some of my work ?

Great tool in the winter, great on first cleans. Mines not been switched on since the freezing temperatures.

It has it's place and I wouldn't be with out it as it keeps things ticking along when needed

On aquaphobic windows you can totally see the dirt being removed. Every tiny spec on the window is dirt!

working with hot is lot nicer, cold water is o lot denser than hot, to me i get a better flow with hot plus the rinsing is where i seem to speed up on the water runs down the panes quicker getting better sheeting than cold water

your comment does not make sence to me, less surface tension ?, dense water would hold and flow heavier would it not giving a better thorough rinse ? Please think about it and give a little more detailed reply if you dont mind, I am always willing to learn facts I have only tested hot not used it day in day out I found rinsing worse, I am not saying your right or wrong here by the way just would like some more info on what your saying and why this is.

I lot nicer I can understand, so you get warm hands, talking about different glass types would less dense water make it harder on hydrophilic glass to rinse just interested to know this point ?
