Hi guys,
We don't really do that much domestics but these guys have just set up near to us.
The guy who is running it is on the sick.
It amazes me it really does.
No insurance, no tax, no nothing

Hi Dean,
Read Duncan Bannatynes book, he tells you how he dealt with it when he had the ice cream vans. Dont let them get away with it....
-
Hi George,
What did he do mate?
Its annoying as they're portraying themselves as a professional business when they aren't.
I can't believe that they've even got the nerve.
-
I think he kicked thiers asses Dean, is a great read, although Peter Jones Tycoon I better ;)
personally I would worry about your business and forget about this chancer.
focusing on him is not going to make you any money is it ?
-
It depends if they are affecting his business, if you want to dominate an area these chancers will be taking legitimate work...
He used all methods, including the police...
-
The problem is that we are trying to build our domestic round up in our local area and these guys are in everybodies faces with leaflets and are putting a bit of a spanner into the works.
I know 100% that they aren't legit as I know the guy personally.
-
It depends how far you are willing to go, there will be people on here that say dont report him but I know what I would do....

Tread carefully. Just because someone is on the sick, it doesn't necessarily follow that he's working illegally. Someone can work and legitimately claim a low level DLA. Re tax. He has 3 months to register after starting up and won't have a tax liability until profits exceed a certain amount (£6k - £7k?). As for insurance, public liability insurance isn't a legal requirement.
So I'm just saying to tread carefully. If you are going to put the mockers on him, it might be better to hold off until he's been trading for 3+ months - by which time he is supposed to have registered the business. At the moment, he may not be doing anything illegal. Of course this does depend on the details of his sick claim.
Knowing him personally doesn't count as proof to the authorities of course. What you know and what can be proven may be totally different.
I don't normally trouble myself about stuff like this unless someone undercuts my work by fiddling. However, it is fair to say that too much of this can push the rates down generally.
-
Hi Paul,
I know what you're saying mate,
It is dodgy ground.
-
You can be on the sick (incapacity benefit) and work at the same time. Depends on many criteria. Don't assume the worse.
-
Matt,
He was on the sick from another job receiving full sick money and has started up this business.
I know the person who owns the company that he works for very well.
He's been on the sick for 4 months so far this year and has started up this little venture with his brother in law.
All is fair in love and war I know that but when I look at my expences and then look at theirs then it is annoying.
Especially when they portray themselves as a professional outfit.
-
As said nothing illegal about it yet,and you can work another job whilst on sick ,depending on different factors ,3 months to register so you can't don anyone in for anything yet.
-
Maybe everythings registered in his brother in laws name?
-
Good call Dick.
Its highly unlikely though.
If you knew them you would agree.
-
I dont know why you are letting it bother you so much , my advice to you is just dont get involved wheteher he is doing it legitimately or not is down to him and his look out , to you it should be nothing more than a competiitor , just treat them like any other competitior and leave it at that and dont waste your energy or time worrying about them and instead use that time and energy and put it to good use building your business and marketing strategy.
-
on maybe hes on a back to work grant, a guy that gets water from me gets this for 3 months, then another three months after that, so maybe hes working his nuts off for this reason.
-
just concentrate on your own business mate
as long as your getting the rates you want and are still pulling in work who gives a f--k what the competitions doing
-
We lost a 20quid job a couple of months ago and this fella has been seen painting a wall at this job this morning.
Hence the post.
-
So many out of work ,the country is shot to poope can't blame people for getti.g out there and earning ,
-
Hey Dean,
There are only so many calls this outfit can do. Their reputation and standard or work will determine how big they get, but I doubt they are any threat to you.
We all lose a few now and again and would say your commercial work will have put other cleaners out.

Yeah I agree,
Its all good fun.
-
The only difference is that within the last 12 months I've probably collected 40k+ in vat, a fair few k on paye and been raped on my tax.
-
Just a small fact. The new laws are, you must register at the time of opening your business. There is no 3 months grace to register even if you only earn 5 quid a year.
-

all ready happened ,and I'm only at 50 odd customers,so its hit me bad not nice but many are doing it for survival so just got to be.

Matt,
He was on the sick from another job receiving full sick money and has started up this business.
I know the person who owns the company that he works for very well.
Then speak to this person as basically it's fraudulent to be claiming sick pay, if you are in fact fit enough to work, that may start the ball rolling with HMRC as the employer will be claiming back sick pay from them (hopefully)
He's been on the sick for 4 months so far this year and has started up this little venture with his brother in law.
AS above

Yes it is all fair in love and business.....so turn it round the other way, it's fair for you to do what you need to to protect your business :)
Especially when they portray themselves as a professional outfit.
Professional is only in the eye of the customer :)
I still go by live and let live.....mostly, but Dean if this really has got to you and yes it p's me off when people boast about not paying tax etc etc, then report this crew to HMRC. There is an anonymous phone line you can do this on.
If they are all above aboard then no harm done. If not then at least you have done something to try and get rid of rogue traders :)

if its not legit and you know this then shop them,I agree that's wrong ,but if there clued up they would register and simply not declare a true amount.obviously no one on here would do this.

Never mind all the dithering - get on line now and report it. It's anonymous and it's your duty, it's not just you they're stealing from, it's every taxpayer plus they give the genuinely needy a bad name.
-
He could also be on this forum right now and going legit in the morning! just a thought.
I dont worry about a company that has 7 vans on the road in my town, the guy is doing very well for himself, alot of his workers are 'on the fiddle' so I hear!! but they do a 'on the fiddle' job so doesnt worry me one bit. I have kept ALL of my customers since start up (except the ones I have passed onto another new guy in the area) and indeed pick up alot of there unhappy customers ;D
The cream ALWAYS rises to the top.
Dont worry dean it will all come out in the wash!

Thank you.

Ian's was better he found you the link! :)
But you are welcome.
People tend to forget that one little part of the reason that this country is in a mess is because of tax dodgers and benefit frauds.
It won't get any better if more get away with it! :)

That's why the "link" put up is anonymous, call, leave details, put phone down. Don't tell people what you have done and get on with your life, there's not much more you can do!
-
Mark.
People who take the P as much as he does deserve what they get coming to them.
Adding to that he knows my address as he has spent many a time at my house drinking my beer and eating my steak before he decided to poope on me.
Dean
-
no one has the right to touch another mans beer :o
SHOP HIM ;D
-
Sh ite gets filtered as poope
-
Lol I noticed that in my post earlier.
-
People tend to forget that one little part of the reason that this country is in a mess is because of tax dodgers and benefit frauds.
Really? I'd doubt it. I personally think if you want to shop someone to your advantage then just do it because its better for you, not try to justify that you're saving or helping the country out !!
-

Is your accountant up to the job of looking after your business. Hope this comes across in the friendly way that it's meant, your business is way bigger than mine by the way, but could your accountant/s be doing a better job of saving you money?
Also if this guy is painting your previous customers wall it dosen't sound as though he'll be a real threat to your multi van set up any time soon
-
I've been chasing the bad guys for fun for the last 8 yrs so its probably just my nature. :o
-
Just a small fact. The new laws are, you must register at the time of opening your business. There is no 3 months grace to register even if you only earn 5 quid a year.
I stand corrected from my post then. I wasn't aware that the rule had changed on this matter.
-
Dean,
How long has this other guy been in this game? As you know him, what do you believe his chances of being in 'business' for long are, whether you shop him or not?
John
-
Shop him, zero tolerence, report him to the benefits hotline, HMRC and every one else you can think of. I would in fact I DO!
And I enjoy it in much the same way as you might enjoy killing a rat. Scum is scum, this is not just a victimless crime.
