How do you go on cleaning carpets in the evening at this time of year?

I find it a nightmare cleaning in artificial light and have turned away 3 0r 4 jobs this week where theyve asked me to do evenings as I cant do day time.

Is there a knack to cleaning in artificial light. We had a new carpet put down 6 weeks ago and when we put the big light on at night it looks dirty.

Some people think we sit at home all day waiting for thier phone call!  :-\

Wayne, i find that artificial light is better on some carpets.

I had one this morning for a small bedroom needing today or tomorrow I would try my best to fit in easy jobs like this but 2 problems, 1. it's too far out of the way 2. he didn't want to pay my price!

Shaun

BTW quoted a customer for a 2 seater sofa with no seat or back cushions to be cleaned she had CD round £220.00 :o, shame I just couldn't fit the requirements of want she wanted time wise.

I had a lady say yesterday that she wanted her 3 piece suite cleaned, as we discussed several weeks ago. She wants it done before Christmas... :o

I booked her in and said "Okay, so that'll be £150 on the day plus I'll do your carpet for free!"

She gasped "150 quid? You said it would cost about £30!"

"No" I said "I said it would be about £30 per seat!"

"Oh Christ, I can't afford that!"

"Do you really believe I'd do all that work for £30?"

"Well actually... No, I thought it was too good to be true!!!"

She said she'll save up and have it done in Spring... I won't hold my breath...! ;D

The lady approached me on the street... Maybe you would suggest I wore a balaclava so she didn't recognise me... She probably thought I should have been wearing a robber's mask.... ;D

No it's not just you. Family & friends have been prompted to just keep talking if the answer machine comes on as we monitor if it's worth picking up or not.

I only advertise my landline numbers, but they are diverted to my mobile.

I used to take it off divert evenings/weekends but always went out the next day forgettign to put the divert back on :(

So I always have calls to my mobile 24/7, but I have to say I very rarely get any at unsociable times.  I've just done a job for one customer who kept screwing around with their dates and would only ever p[hone me after 8pm or on a Sunday.

I finally managed to get rid of a weird guy last year who I mistakenly did a charitable favour for, which was a small job for virtually nothing.  He kept calling me back to come and clean up his tea stains expecting a favour all the time, but always rang at 10 or 11 at night, or Sundays.  I kid you not, I have about 7 numbers for him saved on my phone, he tried using different numbers to ring from to outwit me but he always got the voicemail!!

I got a call from a regular owner of a B&B which I've had around 6-8 jobs per year from....................It was 12 mid day Friday and they needed an emergency clean as the cottage had a lot of work done during the week and they had someone coming in on Saturday morning.  Could I possibly fit in two bedrooms and a staircase / tiny landing.

As I had nothing else planned for the afternoon I found it easy to say yes and was back home within an hour and a half. It's the business I've done for many years and if the phone stopped ringing I would certainly miss the money.

So many were expressing concern over the past couple of months about how quiet things were and hoping the run up to Christmas would give a much needed boost . Surely not the same people taking long holidays and complaining about paid work ! :o :o

The best one I ever got was Xmas day at about 3pm "Mr Gunn I've knocked a glass of red wine over can you come and clean it up?" of course it'll be £150 call out then £50 an hour "but you normally don't charge me that me its not normally xmas day when you ring

I had a call at half past 10 on Christmas night last year. My drunk customer told me she had a red wine emergency and wanted me to come and clean it up immediately.

Needless to say she is no longer a customer.
