Hi folks
just wondering if there are any oven cleaners out there who are busy at the moment, just had my worst dec/jan ever. The commercial work is ok but domestics ( cashflow ) is not what you would call ab/fab.
How many of you other oven cleaners (domestic ) offer a second service ie, carpets, jet washing.
Just interested because I have been subing carpet work out and have been happy to do so, but now it seems every other carpet cleaner or window cleaner is offering oven cleaning services.
Just interested to see who is busy, whether its demographic, or have I neglected my bread and butter because I got a national pub contract last year.
Regards

I have done a few so far this month, not really that busy to be honest, but earning enough to keep the wolf from the door....
I've had a few carpet cleaning jobs too, more than this time last year anyway....

we do them on landlord, but do not do caustic tank routine etc.
Usually comes in House Clean Price and developed by accident
Just wondering what Price you guys charge landlord cleans for ovens

Hi Mike, I'm just adding Oven Cleaning to my carpet cleaning services, got me worried now!
What marketing are you doing at the moment though?
Even though I'm not yet trading as an oven cleaner I have got my website up and running and have 3 enquires in the last two weeks, not much I know but its a start.
Are you leafleting, contacting letting agents, adverts? Yes its quite out there at the moment but as Mark says on his thread about pushing yourself the work is there if you look hard enough.

My prices have to be quite competetive up here in the north, when I started 3 years ago I was the only one doing it in rochdale / oldham area, now there are 7 or 8 just in my area, the price has stayed the same from day one, £45, for single domestic oven, £15 for 4 ring hob, £15 for extractor including new filter.
Prices vary for range cookers / aga's etc, with letting agents I usually tell them £55 - £15 - £15 then tell them I will apply a discount after the first 10 jobs, I know with most letting agents they usually try the franchise companies first which is quite good as I had a quote off the franchise last week, the one beginning with O and ending in U, they quoted me £57.50 for single domestic.
I wouldn't be worrying too much about adding the oven cleaning, just think it may be a slow starter and as an add on you won't be relying on it for your bread and butter, if you are going to target letting agents always see if you can get them to meet you at property I have one in Manchester city centre who insist I collect keys from office, 30min drive in £2 parking, 15 min walk, bit of a nightmare but they give me of plenty of work.
When I started up I could not get through the door with most of them so I gave the manager at each one a freebie voucher for oven cleaning, once you are in there house you have two hours to sell your services, any way you guys know all this.
I do commercial kitchen cleans for a large FM company as well as builders cleans as I could not survive on oven cleaning alone, don't get me wrong the work has not dried up completely, but I know a few carpet cleaners who are mowed out and a few oven cleaners who are struggling.
Reading the thread about pushing yourself has made me wonder if I have been concentrating too much on building the commercial side (60 day terms) and neglected my bread & butter, one thinks it is time to pound the streets of greater manchester once again ( at least it never rains here ) with the magical flyers, I am also thinking of trying to get into a few offices to add another string to my bow as we have a massive business park opening in july with over 200 companies on site, any advice would be much appreciated and any advice or help I can give with oven cleaning do not hesitate to shout.
regards

Hi Mike
I might try the free offer to letting agents to get my foot in the door. Got my first booking for oven cleaning today from a web enquiry, and someone else wants oven, carpets and upholstery cleaned in Feb sometime. I've had 4 enquires for oven cleaning in two weeks since I've been optimising my website, not even started to leaflet yet going on my course and collecting equipment on Monday and Tuesay.

I am debaiting whether to buy a machine and go on the po-chem course for cc, I know its not as easy as just getting kitted up and hitting the road but more strings etc, etc,

I'm doing a course with Dirtbusters in Kent and getting the equip from them too. 2 Day course, 1 day in workshop learning the most common types of oven and how to take doors off and split doors and second day out on the road with one of their tech's doing real jobs.

Mike forgot to say, if you do go on CC course, I can highly recommend the one at Cleanmart in Nottingham with Matt which is run by Derek Bolton ex, training director for NCCA, might be near to you than a Prochem course.
NCCA seems to be highly recommended and I will try and get on it myself sometime this year.
