A question to you guys that have the NVQ, do you state your are qualified on your flyers/website?
Also have you noticed an increase of business becuase you are qualified?
Just a couple of questions as I am going to start stating this on my flyers.

is it easy to do,, what happens in it as i got to do it in sept
-
Its not hard Daz, most of it is common sense.
I had I disagreeessments last week. and passed with flying colours lol
Just waiting for my certificate now ;D ;D
I would of been qualified months ago if I hadn't been held up in Portugal lol

Do you really belive that stating that you are a NVQ qualified window cleaner on your leaflets may help generate an increase in your buisness?
Out of interest have you any idea of your bin mans qualifications or your postmans and are you bothered?
-
when i worked in a factory it was treated as a joke people taking and getting them

Our postman is a man of letters.

I hold a university degree but I think my customer would and do laugh saying why do I do windows then? They don’t expect us to have any education.

I'm the same and do find the 'stigma' to be quite funny
-
I'd put qualifications on commercial canvassing letters & on the commercial bit of my website,.. not on flyers targeting residential work though as it mya put ppl off thinking you must be expensive.

I am guessing the people that joked about it didnt get them and continue today working in a factory laughing at people wanting to do better :-\

they were that easy to get it was unbelievable and for the record i got City and Guilds qualifications in the footwear industry which gave me the right to laugh at the easy nvqs ;) ;)

I am stating on my flyers that I am city and guilds qualified, this is because city and guilds issue out the NVQ's.
So i am not falsifying that I am city and guilds qualified.
I was thinking it looks more professional, and most people know what city and guilds are, also I think it will catch peoples eye, as it is unusual for window cleaners to state they have qualifications in Window Cleaning.
I can gaurantee that other window cleaners will mock me for the fact I have a qualification in Window Cleaning.

Matt my part timer has a svq (Scottish equivalent) of NVQ but I have not got round to advertising the fact yet so keep us updated on feed back, I am more thinking of mentioning it on commercial marketing than residential to be honest.
-
Stu, I am advertising it to both, reason being I have picked up commercial work from dropping flyers to residential customers as company directors and proprietors have had them posted through their doors at home.
I will keep everyone posted on whether it makes a difference or not.
I had a meeting with a sales rep from a company in Leicester about advertising on their website and brochure, they are similar to "trust-a-trademan.com"
They have very stricked policies that you have to follow, you have to submit 2 referees, show proof of liability insurance and any qualifications.
It looks very good.

fair point there Matt I never thought of the residential being in a position to get you commercial work bit. seems I am missing a trick here and food for thought ;) thanks

;D ;D ;D
I am also stating on my flyers that I offer gutter cleaning/clearing.
I state on the there that I "video 'before and after' the gutter clean, this serves as proof that the gutters have been maintained properly."
Just thought it might win customers over as they can see I have cleaned them. lol
What are your thoughts on what I have put there Stu?

Matt I do the same, only ones to knock it will be the ones that dont have it, I use everything to my advantage, better to have than not to IMO.
Hope your doing well fella.

I've got quite a few City & Guilds qualifications, non of them in Window Cleaning though,
might just put it on my flyers, guessing no one will ask ;)

Hi Ian, yeah I am good thanks, and yourself?
I have moved back up to Leicester. I still have my round in Essex, I have moved out of my girlfriends, she is still a partner in the business and we both agreed that it would be best to keep the business going down there.
So the past month I have had to design another website, use another company name, open a second business account at the bank and advertise like mad up here in Leicester.
No rest for the wicked lol
Ian how do you advertise to the commercial sector?
I am going to be phoning round care homes tomorrow.
Matt

Matt it does not do any harm to offer additional services and that would sounds a good idea. I do not offer to many extras my self as far as clearing gutters is concerned as I do not have a vac system although in the past it has brought in one off work that has lead to other work and sometimes more than paid for whatever leaflets I have delivered
-
Thanks Stu, at the moment I am only offering gutter cleaning and window cleaning.
I am seriously going to over price conservatory roof cleans as I hate these with a passion, always takes longer than planned and customers don't want to pay more than £40 even if it takes you several hours.
Stu can I ask you how you target and advertise in the commercial/industrial sector?

matt I am still looking for that answer, the commercial I have has come from being seen, yellow pages, web site and free directory's. my dad and brother are 90% commercial and are not all that keen on telling me things, my dad has now retired but had some very large commercial contracts but he had a background of working for national company's as a regional manager and it was a case of who you knew and a bit of wining and dining and basically bribery back in the eighty's, but as my dad is now retired my brother has downsized the business and is taking on more residential as he was always just a window cleaner and the old ways do not apply so much now a days. so its a case of learning for me and my brother but he definitely get more leads commercial wise and it really is down to doing business with a lot of company's over a long period of time
Matt

So networking with other businessmen within the areas that are covered.
getting to know the RIGHT people lol.
The old saying it isn't what you know its who you know.
Matt
-
yes it always amazes me the jobs my brother picks up, he doesn't advertise very much and has no website, he does not go on forums ::) but still picks up more commercial than me ;D

Before you call.
TPS/TCP the numbers, because they may have opted out of cold calls. Can occur a £5k fine.
Its unlikely, but just to be on the safe side
-
Thanks for the heads up Kate, I will double check all the numbers before I call them
Matt

https://www.tpsmanage.com/?m=
There you go Matt.
You can check individually for free, however if you have a large batch there is a small fee to pay
-
Thanks Kate, I have bookmarked that page.
How many calls do you make a day?
Matt
-
Hi Matt
Depends what Im selling.
PAT electrical testing, quick call, people know what your ringing about, can do prob 25 an hour for something like that.
But if I were doing delegate sales, it would take longer because you have to explain in more details what you are calling about
Your calls should be pretty straight forward, if its care homes, the manager. The only problem with this is that you dont have a name - always best to have a name when you are cold calling. Some places operate a "no name policy", so wont put you through if you dont have a name. But I dont think it will be too hard. Its just you have to bear in mind how many sales calls these homes get a day trying to sell different things to them. Food, work wear, linen services, etc etc. Your main selling point is going to be price, please correct me if I am wrong. But what your after is the opportunity to quote
Do you need an appointment for what you want to do, or can you just price a job up and then send the details without them being present?
Hope that helps
