the first rung on my ladder sheard where it meets the upright today, can it be welded or fixed in some way as it is only a few year old and was the most expensive / best quality i could get at the time, but obviously it has had a lot of use, however all other rungs are great i think its obviously the most used rung and also when the other half of the ladder is dropped on it constantly that has made it happen - still is it fixable??
if not im gonna cut it down and use it as a smaller ladder for one round i have where there are smaller houses but that will render it useless for most other work as its about the smallest ladder i can get away with as it is so chopping it down a rung will make it too small

you need an engineering company that does ally weilding have a look in yellow pages they should be able to help
-
Probably a sign that it's starting to wear, it might be time to replace it ........... Afterall you are putting you self in danger evey time you climb that ladder.

Couldn't agree more, its time for a new ladder

no its just the bottom rung it has been hit a few times and so weakened, i wouldnt use a ladder that i didnt trust

sean its happened to 2 pairs of ladders ive had over the years!its always the first 2 -3 rungs that get damaged as these are the most used when extending the ladders etc.
just buy a brand new set mate.not worth trying to botch up ladders.i have on occasion seen windys with rungs missing still working away!tight arses!dont wanna part with their money! ::)
ive had mine for 2 years now and no signs of wear yet(ali trade 3.5m).im wfp though now so they dont get used much anymore!! :D :D

this happened to mine. your right its all the banging down of the 'hooks' from the extension.
i wouldn't worry too much about it.
i just threw the broken bit away and used the next rung up.
think i did 12mths like that then went wfp

yeh but its the bottom one so cant really stretch up to 2nd all day
think i will get a new one and drop this one to a smaller size
the problem isnt not being able to afford a ladder its needing to use it this week without taking time out to buy and wait for delivery then fitting spikes etc as i need to work long hours through till saturday as my employee has been off sick for 3 weeks and still another 2 to go and i am busiest time of year + going away in 4 weeks and cant fall behind and this is a nightmare if i have to have day off to replace so need quick fix really

you'll get used to it. always thought the first rung was a 'half step' really.
all the fast lads are 2 at a time anyway ;D

also you could grind the two sides down and that will bring your second rung where your first rung used to be and just stick the rubber feet back in
there is always a way

im gonna do that mate but its a short ladder as it is so that wil render it only useful for short work but i have a day every fortnight of low work so a light small ladder will be ideal :)

soon as the bottom rung shows signs of heavy wear the ladder gets binned, made a few mistakes and the rung has broken, while waiting for a new ladder to be delivered ive banged a brush steel through, but only for a couple of days,id hate for a rung higher up to go ,
-
only need it for tommorow now as im going to get a spare off bro in law tommorow night to get me too weekend then get a new one over weekend
for tommorow i will nip to b&q and wedge a bit of timber in for the day bit of a bodge but o well
maybe ewan can tell me how many minutes i will be behind by bodging that :)
