I'd still recommend the back pack and fishing trolley over the expensive (and heavy) 50L trolley.
;D
-
mate you really need to stop thinking about all this - yes its important! but if you spent all this time/effort canvassing or working you would soon be able to buy this stuff alot quicker.
going wfp can be a little pain to start with - first cleans, funny customers ..........
its not a majic wond! still needs alot of time/effort - spend more time on working and gaining more work than thinking of which pole to get and so on.........
youve clearly done all your research but its time to earn money and then earn more money!
-
£1200? :o
Didn't go for the cheap options first time out then?!
-
also ill be getting
waterproof floor paint/rubber matts £40-00
hose for di tanks £40-00
bungees(2)
(for pole rack) £12-00
wcw backpack(with tap) £128-31
so roughly about £1500 to set me up.
i will also get a 30 ft SLX pole when they come back in stock so all in all ill be spending about 2grand!
hopefully this will set me up nicely for now and in a few years i may get a bigger van and go for a van mount.(thinking scudo/expert type van with 500lt tank)
for my renault kangoo(payload 625kg) i think 300/350lts is as much as i can carry!
anyone know where i can get a big rachet strap to strap the containers in the back of van??
regards
dazmond

martin i have plenty of work mate!ive been est 16 years now!a lot of very compact run of the mill stuff, flats,a few nice small commercials, big country houses, converted barns,4/5 bedders.a good mix! ;)
all together ive 330 accounts at present ;) ;D ;D
a lot of my work in an affluent area as well!
-
Waste of money mate,i spent £1000 on a trolley with a pole i have only used once and dont like using the trolley much, they are big akward to get up steps and being 50 instead of 25 litre will be a nightmare!
You should really make sure your making the right decision as you could regret it.I have!
In my defence the only reason i went down the trolley route was because at the time i was using a crew van for my business but now have a doblo!
You say you live in a affulent area and have all these custys and its all in the same area, you dont need a trolley, just get a backpack and a diy van system and better poles!
Them xtel are terrible,i have one i used it once and then bought new poles!
-
in 6 months you will want a van mounted. i got sick of lugging barrels about
-
totally right!

i have a 75 litre trolley and never have i taken it out and wheeled it about!!! Its basically a van mount that i fill up from 25l barrels. I went for a trolley becasuse i didn't have a van at the time and didn't have the money for a van mount.
though i have a friend that only uses his 25l trolley. He had the same 75l one as me but sold it and bought a 2nd 25l
-
i dont live in an affluent area but a lot of my custys do!bring on the happy trolley window cleaners!WHERE ARE YOU!! ;) ;D ;D ;D
-
Daz
if something is worth doing its worth doing properly, stop being affraid of taking the plunge and just get a proper system. IMO everything there is a waste of money, you could d.i.y a van mount for that price
-
in my opinion trolleys seem extremely dear for all that they are.
also, if it is your first dive into the world of wfp then going diy could be a very daunting way to go. You want the stuff to work and work well so buying is probably the best option for you.
i don't remember seeing it listed. But i would but 100m of microbore and a good quality reel and it means you have the option of leaving the trolley in the van
-
totally right!
in 6 months you will want a van mounted. i got sick of lugging barrels about
I've told him this, but he won't listen!! Well if you want to waste your money then go for it, I'll see you down the dump with your trolley in a few months time!!!
-
I've been lugging barrels for about five years now! No probs. I should go van mounted, and maybe will later this year, but I'm more than happy with my working practises.
And if you use a sack truck, there's not that much to lug about to be honest.
-
I rarely post on here much anymore, but i disagree with most of what's been put on this post. Someone once said to me to "buy the best that you can afford". i didn't and ended up buyin lots of cheap poles, trolleys etc etc. I think Daz is going the right thing(not so sure about the resin, unless he hasn't got a static) I binned my freedom trolley a couple of years ago....Wish i hadn't now. I'm van mount and back pack, but i do miss the trolley. It's a great toy to begin with. If i ever get another one, i will buy a ramp for the van though. It's an individual thing. you know your round better than anyone else. Only YOU know what's best. I know Daz has thought long and hard about his decisions and i'm sure he's doing the right thing. Good luck fella. You'll be fine ;-)
-
One more thing....why noy buy a 250l container........whack that in your van and get some delivery hose attached to the bottom of it and a tap. No pump required, just let gravity fill you barrel on the trolley up. Sure you'll need 3 or 4 containers in the van at any given time(for when you cant be near the van) but it only takes 30 seconds to fill a container using the above method and it'll save lugging full ones around.x
-
My trolley is in the for sale section save your self over £400 then you can spend it on marketing which is the hardest part. :)

Please don't listen to this Daz... he's winding you up!!!!! A diy van mount will actually be cheaper than the trolley, it will save you a lot of aggro lugging about water in barrels etc, you will be able to get a lot more work done and earn more money... it really is a no brainer mate!!! As I said when I first went wfp I got a trolley and actually went back to trad after a couple of months because it is quicker and easier than messing about with a trolley!!! :)

Why is it for sale? Is it because you have had enough of lugging it about and have got yourself a van mount by any chance?? ;)

Sorry Groundhog.......I ainit winding him up and i totally disagree with ya. If ya work in a busy road with cars parked everywhere, then a van mount is not fit for purpose. It's a joke with hose getting caught on car tyre's posts etc. Like i said and it should be acknowledged............your chosen setup is a personal thing. Only you know what's best.x
-
I'm with Groundhog. Trolleys are naff. The Freedom trolley, even before you added water was a heavy ruddy thing to cart about.
Van mount plus backpack will see you alright. Failing that start with a back pack and add a van mount later when you can.
Trolleys are a waste of money, IMHO.
-
Good point with the parking, pole 2 pole.
-

Absolute rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!! :o
-
If I was going to buy a trolley I'd go for the Omnipole one, www.omnipole.com/omnitrolley.htm as for the 20ft pole I use a 24ft fibre glass and it only just reaches some of my 2nd floor work and I struggle reaching over some conservatories. the 25ft Brodex hydra may be a better option and then knock up a Harris pole for ground and first floor.
-
no way trolleys are way better than vanmounts as you have best of both worlds. I use my freedom trolley as a van mound also its handy for awkward parking and access issues as would a backpack. Daz go for the 25 litre trolley. I have both and never even take the 50 one out.
-

Apparently not ;D

I don`t think it`s the last we`ll hear on this subject ;D.

Daz, that control pole valve seems awful pricey at £17. ???

This just about sums it up for me, you can't go wrong with a van mount.. and if you really have to then get a back pack for the odd job where it is awkward to get to with the hose, a trolley is a complete waste of money... most people who buy them end up using them as van mounts anyway, so you may as well get a proper van mount in the first place. Nuff said ;)
-
Hi Groundhog I am selling the trolley cos I do'nt do window cleaning anymore ! ::) Regards Hotsteam

Thats what happens when you use inferior equipment!!!!!!! ;)

Well I`ve got a trolley >:(......and wish I`d got a backpack ::).

hard work dragging them around!

first there was wfp v trad and now we have van mount v trolley!!!!! :o
Ive got a van mount but after reading some of the opinions I could really use a trolley on some of my jobs!
-
Them xtel are terrible,i have one i used it once and then bought new poles!
Agreed, I got a 17 foot xtel, Its awful, bendy floppy heavy thing, only use it for con roof cleans, but its crap
-
mines 22ft it weighs a ton bends all over the place when you lift it off the window you think isit going to snap.
They have got to be the worst poles around!

Daz what van do you have?
I have a 350 litre van mount in my escort van.

Later I'll post some pics of what you need & the cost for a 400ltr van mount. It's easier & cheaper than you may think.
I happen to agree that you'll be better of with a van mount. ;)
Trollies can be handy & do have their place but IMO not as your main, day in day out system.

Daz m8 got a kangoo too.started wfp few weeks ago.mines 525 payload.got 250 tank.nearly got trolley.so glad changed my mind last minute.got 2 di tanks, shurflo etc 100 m minibore on weeled hosereel.24 xtel.protect etc.gardeners supa, lesiure bat and all little extras.tank strapped in around angle iron .bolt around chasssis.£1300.workin with hose no prob.snaga a bit but just see it as part of job.doesnt stress me at all.gettin 25 slx though.making life easyer 2 me is important.might get backpack migt not going good with hose :).life so much easyr.18 yrs on sqeegee this is much better.some 1st cleans coming up amazing. thoutgh i was well above average on sqeegee.do a better job with this.u wont bileve until u see it

It's up to you what you spend your money on but you are making a mistake going for a 50 litre trolley. It will be a nightmare to move around.
I have a number of van mounted systems and have added a 25 litre X-Line trolley to most of them. This gives the best of both worlds. If you started out with a 25litre X-Line it's a dawdle to add a tank andf use the trolley in the van when you want to use it as a van mount. When you have parking problems and hose hazards it's a 1 minute job to pop the trolley off the tank and use it on it's own.
Had I realised this when we first went WFP I 100% would have saved a lot of money and bought systems comprising of tanks powered by trollies. Please listen to the voice of experience and get it right from the start.

you lot be sending daz head in a right spin, :P ::)
-
Daz, I think you are making a mistake too and will regret it in time. I started with a car, 25l containers and a backpack. It did me ok for a year but then I did a DIY 500l van setup and I honestly cannot remember the last time I used the backpack.
I live quite near to you I think, I am in Altrincham, Cheshire. I would be more then happy to set my backpack up for you, fill a couple of barrels and hit a few houses.
You can use the backpack for a few and then my van system for a few and see what you think. I also have a 30ft SLX and an 18ft xtel. I have a white mono superlight and a black dual trim flocked. You will get a good feel for all the equipment and make an informed decision.
-
Daz, I too deliberated for ages before choosing a trolley to back up my van mount and have a second operator working at the rear of a massive amount of 2 storey townhouses that i clean as well as a multitude of other work i had in mind for the trolley. Went for the PF 50L. Travelled down from Scotland to see it in the flesh and choose between it and the 25L. Well worth the visit, very helpful friendly people Great piece of kit.
Weight is fine and easy to manouvre
If you want any more info or advice drop me an e-mail at granitecitywindowcleaners@hotmail.com and will get in touch by phone
-
I got two PF 25lt trolleys. Great kit I,ve seen the 50lt its easy to move and weighs little more than the 25lt trolley. I also have PF van systems and I started with the trolleys and then got van systems but still use the trolleys. Remember they are quality kit using the same kit on them as the van systems and they can draw from a tank in the future if you want. I cant recomend them more, oh and nice people to deal with!

Hmmm I smell more "plants" in here than in Kew gardens!!!
Just have a look at Easycleaner's backposts ;) Promote your business up front for a change.

wow guys!i didnt think this thread would get this response!i will change the choice of pole methinks as u lot have experience with these f/g extel poles.what about a brodex 18ft hydra?im not sure what the closed length is for bottom windows though! ::)
the small resin vessel is for if i need a top up while at work.ill fill up at night DI ONLY with the 16litre vessel.hose downstairs,DI,then into containers ready for the morning.
im sure the trolley will be fine!im planning on just wfpoling the tops on first cleans and have trad gear with spray bottle(no bucket to carry!) on belt for tradding bottoms.
how hard can it be?i wont have ladders and bucket to carry round.ill just push the trolley round the 2 big estates of compact work ive got.the 50L version even has a pole carrier on it!
its like a modern version of the window cleaning cart!if im doin tops only on a lot of my work then ill only have to nip to the van every hour or so for a refill! ;D ;D
i really like the idea of the trolley! ;D ;D
-
Do not waste your money on a trolley as other posts have said. Slow cumbersome awkward, are some of the words that come to mind. I should know as i used to have a 25 litre pure freedom trolly about 3 years ago.
Better off putting your money into the biggest tank you can afford and preferably bolt down hose reel (i'm assuming you have a van) Forget estate cars as they have low payloads and can't take the weight safely.
For poles the hybrid HXTEL poles are a good all rounder ( although usually the top section will need replacing within about 12 months due to the most wear. Retro fit a flow control valve to each pole too, so you can stop/start your water quickly and easily.
You want to give Varitech systems in Newton Abbot a call on 01626 830830. They will give you better pricing than Adepta Engineering (Pure Freedom) as they are suppliers to them.

this is funny ;D it was trad v wfp ;D now...... its wfp v wfp ;D ;D ;D

LOL.
Seems that way.
I've done trolley, backpack and van mount in the last 5 years. As others have said, I would not be without my van mount. I had to rough it for a while when my van was off the road. I used containers, a trolley, and a backpack. It worked of course but it was a right pain as I had got used to van mount by then. I found van mount to be quicker, safer (less manual handling issues), and generally more convenient. Trolley and backpack are good tools though for when there may be trip hazard problems with the hose. I no longer use my old trolley. Just van mount and occasional backpack these days.
-
Daz. When you wake up this morning and go to your sock drawer, I hope you only have one pair of socks in there. Otherwise you could be sitting on the bed for a few hours wondering whether to wear the blue ones, the red ones , or the black ones ;D
-
Daz do you have any 3 storey work ? if you done but want to I think you will struggle with a 20ft pole, if money streaches I would get a 17ft xtel and a 30ft this should then cover your work, if you can afford a 30ft slx instead on the xtel I would defo recommend that.
Brodex pole are also good, but none beat an slx ;)

my rounds all domestic and i use a backpack easy access
to any property, prefered it to my freedom trolley which ended up
using as a van mount 400 ltr upright tank and hundred meters
of microbore hated the constant snagging i am far quicker now.
if you have mixture of commercial and domestic i would
get a van mount and backpack if i was you trollies really
are a pain hauling around and i would imagine on stand
alone large commercial jobs a van mount would be quicker

pulled up yesterday to clean a house... i have a van mount...
whipped my pole out from the holders on the ceiling inside the van, pulled my hose from the static , bolted reel in the van and off i went washing away,
At the same time another guy i know pulled up with his van, .. humped his trolley out then started filling it from 25l container.... by now i had done the front...
went and did the back of the house and came back ..finished ! reeled in my hose shut the doors.
he was still on the front upstairs next door.... as i drove off i thought to myself, poor bugger... he will have had to then hump his trolley back into the van and mess about filling it up for next cleans etc....
been there , done that with a back pack and 25l containers.
when i got the van mount my life suddenly became so much easier,
My experience of both !
-
daz getyourself a clx from gardiners only 5ft closed length or a 25ft hydra alloy brodex and a 7ft hydra from brodex very well prices, dont waste your time with a 18 because you will always want bigger in the end!

thats just it gazza i rarely just do stand alone jobs!i have a lot of very compact work with lots of cars, pots, plants, and lots of other stuff in the way.i could use the trolley as a van mount anyway for some stand alones.others i have to park quite away from their electric gates making reeling hose in and out a pain!right across footpaths, roads etc.
itll take 2 mins to take trolley out and pop 2 barrels on and away i go! ;D ;D
i could always get a tank at a later date and hook trolley up and hey presto A VAN MOUNT! ;D ;D
-
lots of my work in one area takes me 2 weeks to clean!park up and clean a whole estate(takes me 5 days trad!)then across the road to another big estate(takes me another 5 days to clean!) then lots of clusters of jobs that take half a day/full day, quite a few big country houses(an hour here and there).commercial jobs and one or two stand alones that i could just use the backpack on.very compact granny flats.
i wont be humping the trolley in and out of the van all day thats for sure on my round!! ;) ;D ;D
-
Having no bucket and a spray bottle is no good for trad. Can you imagine in the middle of summer? I have tried it.
Use a Fairy bottle/ pop bottle and fill it using outside taps if you`re not carrying a bucket.
-
i agree i wouldnt use a spray bottle i just put some of my bucket into my boab and hook it onto my trolley and you will find it last ages without a dip any way as the bottom windows are always soaking wet when you do them ;D
-

But he`s not using a bucket ::) Your applicator will be drier than Ghandi`s sandals.
-
sorry lads i meant an old fairy bottle full with gg3/water!!.tip some in b.o.b and mop and away i go! :D :D
i use spray bottle for the odd inside job! ;) ;D ;D
-
iv been using a spray bottle for a few months now (trad) and its a winner all round . my bucket stays in the boot of my car and only if im back at my car do i put my applicator in it . i tried a few diffrent spray bottles before settling on one i bought in a hardware shop,it sprays a good amount each pull of the trigger and about a ten feet range so i can spray as i walk towards/climb towards a window. i removed the 1litre opaque spraybottle reservoir and replaced it with a clear plastic 300ml. water bottle because the original was too heavy/couldnt see clearly the level / for ladderwork . im sure there are even better spray bottles out there
-
The difference is, you carry a bucket. Daz isn`t going to have one in his vehicle.
I`ve liked using spray bottles but I find you need something to wet your applicator more, especially in summer. So if I left the bucket behind, I would use a small bottle of solution and sprayer.
Have you seen the Unger one? The bottle stays on your belt and you lift just the trigger and spray. The trigger is attached by some curly tubing.

ive only seen photos of that unger sprayer ,it looks well made and i wonder what it sprays like. downside it looks as though it has a big bottle which would get dangerous up on the ladder. if it 1 litre thats a hefty weight if you carry it all day .
im using a wagtail flipper as main squeegee with original yellow pad. this holds very little water but iv now got my spray bottle handy. the upside is the yellow pads light on the arm and thats whats important to me .
[last week i reverted to a regular type applicator and unger zero squeegee just for 1 house and the weight of a fully laden applicator killed my arm in no time ]

It is bulky and sits on your belt, not in a pouch, which I didn`t really like.
The bottle is big but you don`t have to fill it. It is secure on your belt though.
It`s not the best sprayer either and overall, I wouldn`t go over the top about it :-\.

mike the 50l p/f trolley comes with 10m of hose already.i will get a reel as well.i just want enough to be able to clean 2 houses back and front with the trolley in the middle of them.

went and did the back of the house and came back ..finished ! reeled in my hose shut the doors.
he was still on the front upstairs next door.... as i drove off i thought to myself, poor bugger... he will have had to then hump his trolley back into the van and mess about filling it up for next cleans etc....
been there , done that with a back pack and 25l containers.
when i got the van mount my life suddenly became so much easier,
My experience of both !
my backpack would have already been filled before i got to job
by the time you had pulled your hose out i would have been
on the back ;) ;D
thats my point, had the backpack,.. filling and messing with containers, so slow.... nothing easier than pulling a hose out of the van...
yep your right much easier ;D turn system on pullout hose gets snagged
under car wheel ::)go back and free it keep pulling pole hose out then
gets snagged on garden gate or on corner of house :(,oops you have just
knocked plant pots over >:( then some silly arse bleeder parks on it or
some neighbours kids come out and decide to play tug of war with it.oh
yeah the classic dragging 50 mtrs of hose through dog crap :o :o
just some of the things that drove me crazy but yep your right
hassle free ;D ;D

I'd still recommend the back pack and fishing trolley over the expensive (and heavy) 50L trolley.
;D
dazmond, i've been on the opposite side of the fence to tosh many a time with the trolley backpack posts. But with the set up you have mentioned i would agree with tosh on this 1.
Ive used a mark 1 freedom trolley for 4 years now. Still going strong. I use it as a van mount mostly, but detatch it for certain jobs. I still think a trolley is a great investment. 50 litres isn't that much heavier than 25 litres as that other bloke said. It is 25kg heavier. Plus the weight of the barrel. Way too heavy to drag around on any kind of trolley.
You are better off with a backpack. If you had decided on a backpack you would have had it months now and be quite proficient by now.
A van mount is almost everytime the best bit of kit for the job. Quicker, easier and less strain on the body. I have some properties that are quicker with a trolley. But much easier pulling out a hose.
