Quad bike window cleaner

On checking out Karls Blog again, I found this topic, is this guy a member on here?
More picture can be seen on Karls blog.
www.robinson-solutions.blogspot.com/

Kevin James has a new ride - and it isn't your normal vehicle for a window cleaner! Kevin of "Life on a Ledge window cleaning" operates on the Somerset/Wiltshire border servicing the main towns: Bath, Bradford on Avon, Frome, Westbury and Trowbridge. He uses a quad (Can-Am 800) that is capable of towing 500 kilos - more than enough to clean the houses of the 850 residential clients he services. In fact he states that he now needs 1000 clients to fill five days a week on a six week turnaround with the use of the water fed pole!

Great idea not sure the police would be happy about that pole sticking out the front as far as it is though

I know they are road legal, but can you ride them on a motorway? Ive just never seen one on a motorway.

Ive always wanted a motorbike, but i could trade the car in for one ( i think you only need a car licence for one of those) :P

Yes you can use them on the motorway and as you say you only need a car licence.

I think its a great idea if your work is pretty compact and in a nice area. Round my way it would get vandalised in no time. Got to be more fun and economical than a van.

I know a chap (w/c) who has a copmact round and he's in the process of converting a large electric mobility scooter to pull a trailer with.

I think he and the guy with the quad bike are doing a clever thing, They'll get noticed even more by people and I bet they pull in the work from there little conversions? best of luck to them both.

problem is the quads are rather noisy! that could put upper classes off who live in the country. So you lose possible good earners?

I agree in some respect Chris but there is also the other side of the coin as I have found out.?

I use a petrol pressure washer for my guttering work and with the noise of the engine, people come out to see whats happening, when they see what I'm doing I often get booked to do there's as well.

i use a trike with a trailer
Got any pictures then Trike so we can see your set-up? sounds good to me.

I find Saturdays the best day to pick up extra work, start the pressure washer up around 10am and they can't moan that I disturbed there lay in as most people are up by then? (well I am Lol)
Some are just going out shopping or what ever, they hear the washer going, have a nose and some come over to ask how much to do there's.
Then you get the curtain twitchers, I like them as well ;D

When I was still on ladders I used to rattle them a bit louder on Saturdays Lol

Yeh, like i said i wonder how much them tanks hold, if you cold get near 200 litres on it would be cool

Sqivel hosereel on the back, a backpack running the hosereel and it removable if needed. a place for your poles to attch up right, youd only need a 17ft xtel pole, great

Just looked up the towing capacity on one of those 800cc models - 590kg pretty impressive for such a small vehicle. Trouble is the quad weighs about the same as the trailer (probably less) so i would think braking might be dodgy. Be great in the Summer.
Think i know of the guy, he used to have his van with the tanks on the outside i believe. Bit like Ghostbusters.  :)
He's on here, see the 'stuck in the mud' post.

Hi,
nice to see the interest!
the house being cleaned belongs to a millionaire and has horses. No complaints about noise . Mind you this ones made in canada and sounds like an ordinary 800cc bike.

I'm a private detective.  ;D
Long story really and not very exciting. I used to work in Frome at the print factory and obviously you are quite well known in that area (i didn't know you i'm from Trowbridge). When i started my business my colleagues - the ones who wern't taking the pee told me all about the guy with the ghostbusters van and the floppy hat. The hat is a good selling point too. Some were customers and possibly the Managing Director too. Anyway as my work took off i left the place - couldn't stand it any longer. Got chatting to a local cleaner much later who had come accross the pictures of the factory being cleaned buy a guy with a floppy hat and a jet wash. Just did a google search of the factory and it soon popped up put two and two together and there you are. Bit confusing 'cos you were under a company name i dealt with in Chippenham who passed the name to another in Westbury who seem to have sold to a business up north  ???
I'll delete the piccie from here if you like.

no prob with the picture. Wuz just intrigued. You nearly had it right. I did clean the print works ( a friend in Westbury got the job & even got paid, month before the initial closure!). The pictures must be from his website & that's a pic from dilton marsh educational farm.
Do you miss the factory in the depths of February?

Cheers kevin j.

When I changed Kangoo's, I did consider a "Tuk-Tuk", just to make heads turn.

Unfortunately, a bit impractical, as the Kangoo has to double as my private transport, [in the Winter, motorcycle in the Summer]

Nope don't miss it one little bit. Did go back some months ago though and clean the windows inside and out at a rather low price! I only do one job in Frome which is a B&B. I've not had to venture far out of my home town really few in Dilton and Westbury. There's about four or five on this forum from our area that i know of.

i liked the idea so much my landy is up sale. what do you think would be better for ladders james...directly on the bike or a trailer? what size engine you got.....what's reliability like? are quadzillas any good or am i better off paying extra £2k for a brand?

Hi,
I only use ladders for flat roofs, so telescopics are ideal ( £140, screwfix ). If longer ladders needed, then a trailer would be best. This Can Am is an 800cc, but I think the 650 would be just as capable. Mine does 35 mpg, so the 650 should top 40-45. The build quality of the Can Ams is excellent & in 1300 miles have had no grief. Did look at Hondas but they don't come PLG, only agricultural. I'm doing a day & 1/2's work in a day so I reckon to pay back in 2 years. Most of the hose probs dissapear cos you can park where you want to. It's an 800ccback pack! Check out ebay, there was one for £3000 with 14 months warranty.

Cheers kevin

Well, the cold weathers here. And pleased to report that life on a quad bike is ok in -1.
Heated grips, warm air from the engine up yer skirt.
Plus points: straight off the bike, freezing at 40 mph to enjoy stationary wfp. No hesitating in Van!

cheers Kevin.

:) carry on, i do a few over there, mostly three storey and a very tall block of flats and a few in Dilton. A lot on leigh park seem pretty tight for money. Seems to have been targeted by several different people. See there is a new start up from Warminster too i believe. Tidy Windows they call themselves. Had a call from a guy in 'Norton trying to sell a complete wfp set up the other day 400ltr tank, 4040 ro and poles had a van to get rid of too, if you know anyone interested i'll look out his number.
