Employ someone part time and work just 2 days a week cleaning windows.

Then look into doing something else. Not sure what but something non physical.

I may change my mind in a few weeks  ;D

You must be doing well 👏 👏 👏. I have two rentals at the moment but to be honest I would sell them at the earliest opportunity. The SNP has totally killed it for landlords in Scotland, firstly using COVID and now the cost of living crisis as the excuse to bring in draconian measures.

Rent increase freeze, ban on evictions. Both of these can be overcome but there is now a lengthy process to go through, particularly evictions. Even wanting to sell your property isn’t a good enough reason to evict. You have to go to a first tier tribunal ( kangaroo court ) which in itself is a lengthy process then more often than not they will find in the tenants favour. Then there is the taxation system in Scotland which means you are more likely to be paying 41% tax on any profit as the threshold is lower.

Ok that’s interesting, surely once the tenancy term has expired you don’t have to renew it though ? We just have to give 3 months notice at this time , I understand any other changes have been cancelled in England that we’re supposed to have been coming in so the agency I let mine out through have said , it’s getting more complex letting property but I still feel it’s the best investment at this time , I used to sort it all my but now use a letting agent makes life so much easier and at a cost of 10% not to bad as they sort everything out .

It’s a Private Residential Tenancy in Scotland and not the Short Term Assured Tenancy it used to be. This means that you don’t sign 6 or 12 month agreements , it’s a roll on agreement.

I am at 4600 customers with 800k turnover and I have a couple of btl's,

I don't live in Scotland and I would not ever invest there so any of that doesn't effect me, my btl's are doing quite well and I want more of them

This is a new year venture for myself also (commercial not residential) hope it's not a ball ache  ;D plan is after agents fees and tax put the rest of the income into a pension pot for years to come, then sell property for more than I bought it for when the time is right.

That’s great - good target to go for without being unrealistic

I don’t do new years resi’s either - when I wanted to stop smoking I did not because it was jan 1

Planning out next year - looking at an increase in roof cleans and going after some contracts - we were down 3% on turnover this year looking to increase by 15% in 24

I never did anything with it. Too busy with windows and its really weather dependant cant spray anything if even it looks like it might rain. I have loads of ideas but only one of me, cant do everything and as we know once you bring someone else in to make your life easier  ::)roll... everything goes to poo.

I haven't really made any resolutions, but I know what I would like to work towards this year:
I'm coming up 60, so I would like to make life easier; ideally 4 days a week.
I want to get out leafletting (yes really) and swap those big detached houses for loads of small 2 bed bungalows, small houses or flats.
I've also been focusing on another income stream that uses your brain, rather than physical effort, and I would like to focus a bit more on that.
Personally, I've not had the best of years this year, so I see the New Year as a fresh 'starting point';
an opportunity to focus on the future, rather than reflect upon the past.
Happy New Year to you all.

Mine is to drastically change my diet.

I’m cutting out all processed food.

All added sugar.

And cutting out all the junk I eat in the evenings.

I look very healthy, but I don’t feel it due to eating pretty well, but, and here’s the but, gorging on chocolate, crisps, cakes etc in the evenings. If I keep eating the junk, I’ll end up pre diabetic.

Don't drastically change your diet...

Just start with small things like not taking sugar in your tea and coffee and not buying UPF in the first place.

Eat real food

Fish
Meat
Greek yoghurt
Cheese
Oats
Potatoes
Rice
Various fruit and vegetables,etc

If you have lots of xmas food left over put it away out of sight and just eat a bit say once or twice a week.

You cannot avoid all UPF it's virtually impossible these days but you will feel a lot better if you cut out the majority

Drastic diets are prone to failure...

Eat that burger or pizza, chocolate or whatever but limit it to the odd occasion once or twice per week

I've just come back from food shopping and had my brunch....

Glass of kefir

Scrambled egg(5 eggs) on sour dough toast with good quality ham and spinach cooked in real butter.

That's around 1000kcal,65g protein which will keep me fuelled for the gym this afternoon...

I'll have fAge yoghurt with frozen berries after my workout with a scoop of strawberry  protein powder which will be around 400kcal,45g protein

My missus is coming round at 5pm so we re having...

Salmon fillet,new potatoes,broccoli,carrots and hollandaise sauce.thats around 600kcal,30g protein

Banana,100kcal,2 g protein

So thats only 2100kcal,142g protein for the day which means I've got 900kcal left to eat what I like(3000kcal a day is my maintenance)

We re off to a local club tonight to meet up with some of my old musician mate's and watch a band.ill be drinking diet coke so no calories consumed.

I'll be allowing myself to smoke a fat cuban cigar tonight!🙂👍

I've ate a fair bit of chocolate, mince pies and biscuits this last week or so but I've also still got my gym sessions in,took the dog for a walk and ate some good healthy meals every day.ive been less active overall (obviously due to not working).

No alcohol for me so no worries there.the leftover xmas junk food has been stored away in my cupboards out of sight to slowly go through occasionally throughout January!😄👍

The real problems with ultra processed  food is when it's the majority of what you eat day to day for years...

Couple that with lack of exercise, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, drugs(street or prescribed medication)and its a recipe for increasingly poorer health.

It's insidious and takes time,so slowly in fact a lot of us don't know its happening.we just put it down to growing older

The importance of gut health should not be underestimated.these UPFs destroy some of the billions of bacteria in our microbiom which can affect not just our digestive systems but our immune systems and general mental health...

The answer is simple EAT REAL FOOD MOST OF THE TIME

I’ve got a mate who’s been on the carnivore diet for a year now, he’s never felt better. He’s a proper athlete as well. Got to the finals of ninja warrior. That type.

I’ve started eating scrambled egg in the morning with a slice of home made bread. (we bought a bread maker)

Meat for lunch, nuts etc if needed.

Normal dinner.

Feel much better already, started it on weds.

There is a huge shift in thinking now. Animal products are good. Not all this veg oil and processed nonsense full of sugar we were all told to eat.

You’ve only got to look at the thousands of people who have been on long term keto or carnivore to see the huge benefits. With good blood tests.

Jordan Peterson being one of the early well known ones. Along with his family. Lots on YouTube etc.

If anyone it interested, do watch this very well made documentary:

I’m doing neither, because I’m eating a normal evening meal. Be in pasta, lasagne, pizza, rice, etc etc.

However, the evidence is very very good for those on keto/carnivore diets.

Well worth watching the documentary!

Christmas Is no different for me, my diet is terrible everyday.

Not a day goes by where I don't have lots of coffee or tea with sugar. Sugary cereals or toast with jam  etc for breakfast. Lots of white bread, zero fruit or veg. Crisps, biscuits, cake and chocolate everyday, meals are often processed as well and even when I cook its usually in oil and high salt.

I've signed up for a 2 month diet/coaching thing starting next week so will be dropping everything and eating clean.

I've done similar before, it's like quitting anything sugar is addictive and takes a few weeks for the cravings to stop but if you can get through a few weeks you find yourself turning away such foods and actually starting to like veg lol

Alright or maybe crap. Its difficult to say, i mean its how ive always eaten. I dont eat any different now to when i was 18. Even as a child although we were given veg we never ate it and hid it under the mash potato lol not really got anything to compare it to. I have been on diets before for a few days or weeks but no long term comparison.

Totally get that, I was the same for years, then in my late 20’s made some good changes. However I still ate a tonne of sugar in the evenings.

Started getting hypos, low blood sugar and feeling lightheaded in the evenings before dinner.

Realised I was probably getting near pre diabetic.

This year cutting out the crap. No more subway fir lunch every day at work. No more sugar after dinner etc etc.

One day it’ll catch up with you, best to make the change asap really.

Dazmond, I just started Keifer a month ago, do you make your own or buy shop one, which one do you buy, also I remember you said about your breakfast oats milk egg and banana, do you have the same every morning or different, cheers, happy new year everyone, time to get healthier for us window cleaners  ;D

Hi matty I just buy the plain biotiful brand kefir drink.

As for breakfast I usually make a pancake(oats,2 eggs, peanut butter, banana, cinnamon, splash of water)whizzed up in a nutribullet and cooked in a non stick pan with coconut oil(I cook the top under the grill)

700kcal,25g protein.keeps me going til around 1pm.

Other times I'll just have scrambled egg on sour dough toast with spinach and at weekends I'll skip breakfast altogether usually so I can eat more later in the day.
price higher/work harder!

Any from a business perspective??

Developments? investments? cost cutting? improve profit?

 :)

A 10% price increase on just about all my customers, even though I put them up this time last year too.

Just started last week; no real problems so far.

Jordan Peterson being one of the early well known ones. Along with his family. Lots on YouTube etc.

Peterson says it's miserable though.

Low carb is better and more sustainable in the long term than just eating meat all the time.

I've also been focusing on another income stream that uses your brain, rather than physical effort, and I would like to focus a bit more on that.

I've a photography business that's really grown and this year will be the busiest yet.  I photograph running races; anything from fast 5k to 100 mile ultra marathons.  Many of my jobs start Friday evening and finish Sunday night.  Plus another day of photo editing.  Then I have a day off to recover. ;D

It's demanding, often knackering, but I find it a lot less boring than cleaning windows.  But I do like window cleaning too; I like the routine and structure it provides.  Plus I get to listen to audio books all day.

What's your non-window-cleaning sideline?

Yes he does, but many many others enjoy it, my mates now 1 year in and feels absolutely amazing. I’m still eating normal dinners so it’s not hard at all for me. I couldn’t do it full time, I love my food!

I met a mental - and mentally fit - ultra runner earlier this year who someone described as 'The Welsh David Goggins'.

He only eats meat and fruit.

Works for him, obviously, he was a fit bloke, but I think some of the 'secret' is more about the junk he's not eating (highly processed carbs).

I coach a grassroots U9 football team. I’m an unpaid volunteer but I find it really rewarding and get to spend quality time with my lad.

Plenty to do, arrange the fixtures, arrange training, organise the other coaches, deal with any issues from the parents (the worst part), sort sponsorship, team building days, order equipment the list goes on.

3-2 loss yesterday to our close rivals, 2 goals conceded in the last minute.   :-\

Absolutely, it’s more about what you’re not eating. But organic beef is very healthy and clean. Super nutritious, as are eggs etc.

I think the body responds very well in so many people because of the clean type of food beef is.

That documentary I posted in this thread is well worth a watch.
