How did you get your work
« on: October 26, 2006, 05:09:08 pm »
There are various means of getting work, here are my top proividers of getting
work in order of customers gained :-

 1) Recomendation
 2) Canvasing
 3) Business card through door
 4) Website
 5) Van sign
 6) Advert on other website ( Council )
 7) Leaflet

There are other forms like Yellow pages, newspaper, FED etc.. which I have not
 used.

What have been your top providers?

yell.com seems to workin quite well for us at mo, quite expensive though cost around £600 with the link to my web site etc, but ive picked up a couple of decent contracts through yell.com in the last couple of weeks.

We put out about 500 'clean me' leaflets and have not looked back, when we get a call from a new customer we turn up clean them and then knock the doors of that street

The majority of my new work comes from recommendation, or just being seen out and about.

I/we picked up two new accounts today, just by being seen.

hi, i started renting a  round, what not had been done for a good few 6  months,i went back end of day and told him you lost 90% of your customers and give him the book back and carried on cleaning the work  myself,as he could not bothered checking the round himself ;D

That doesn't sound very 'British' to me.  Despite the six month gap in cleans, you've basically conned a window cleaner into giving you some top canvassing tips.

Bumper,  ???

I think you are well out of order. Your attitude stinks.  >:(

Granted, if the work was not done for 6 months he may have lost SOME but you say you carried on cleaning the round, meaning that there was more than 10% of the round left. For it to be worthwhile for you to continue it instead of walking away I reckon there were likely a lot of customers left.

The fact that he hasn't checked it tells me that he trusts you and I think you have just taken advantage of that.

Why haven't you gone out and canvassed your own work? - Because YOU can't be bothered.

Easier to just take underhandedly steal the round off someone else though ey.

The fact that you brag about it astounds me.  :o

People like you really wind me up.  >:(

PS reading through your other posts, I can see I'm right. It's people like you that give window cleaners a bad name.

Our business has to be built by the majority of canvassing. We sometimes pick up work by being seen at work aswell.  :D

Mark,

Don't get wound up and don't argue with fools.  I'm quite experienced in this department, so it's good advice.

Bad practise bumper >:( >:( >:( If you told one of my customers that I wouldnt be to happy.

You dont need to take work off other w/c's in such a sly dirty way, there is enough work out there for us all, and some.

And as for stealing work from your ex contractor :o :o bad form, YOU SHOULDNT BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU PAL!!!!!!!!! you seem very dishonest and sly to me, I certainly wouldnt trust you to clean my windows.  >:(

Another way of looking for customers is local community forums like this one in
London, people are always looking for a window cleaner :-
