What time do you go to bed...
« on: August 01, 2019, 07:13:22 am »
And how well do you sleep in general?

Be interesting to see how a bunch of people who all do the same job sleep. What time they head up the wooden hill etc...

I’m usually in bed by 10-10:30pm and asleep by 11 ish.

Generally sleep well, but don’t usually sleep right through.

I think being in this job helps sleep, it’s physical, and low stress.

Alarm goes off at 6:50am unless I’ve got certain commercial jobs on.

Bed for 10:00 pm and up for 6:00 am.  Don't need an alarm.

All my adult life I've always gone to bed at about 11 - 12

But this year I've totally changed and now go to bed about 9pm and have done for months, sometimes earlier.

I don't go to sleep whilst about 12 i either watch TV or am on the phone/laptop or reading.

Bed, anywhere between 2-4 am generally but sometimes it can be later. I've been like this for last 15-20 yrs or so.   Wakeup time, around 7ish to help with kids for school and around 7ish in the holidays cause the kids don't know what sleep in is 😭

I normally set off to work after school runs or during the holidays, I aim for 8.30.

I've got used to it now, or should I say my body has. In the past, a couple of yrs back, I helped a friend out on a couple of night guard duties from 10 pm till 6am and then back to work at 9 on windows.
Eventually my body crashes and I will sleep for near on 18 hrs or so and that seems to reset me and I'm back to being awake all night again. (lol might explain some posts when I seem to throw the dummy out)

Baaaaad news that.

If you've got a spare couple of hours watch this:

Or you could get the podcast version and listen while at work. Lack of sleep is very bad for you and you can't just "catch up".

I try to get 8 hours every night.

Sleep tight folks.

Bed for midnight, wake up at 0100hrs,  0200hrs, 0300hrs, 0400hrs, 0500hrs then get up and do a days work absolutely knackered.

Suffer from sleep apnea which I have had for about 30 years (now 55).

In my defence I learnt years ago to take advantage of a power nap so don’t really suffer but generally permanently knackered. 🤪😭👀

Lol cheers guys,
Yep, sleep isn't something you can just catch up on haha I think I know that 👍.  This isn't via choice, that I just decided one day to not sleep lol.  I've tried all sorts, reading, relaxing, herbal stuff etc etc.
There was once an interesting documentary on the BBC (can't recall who did it now) on sleep and the alternatives to help ones with imsomnia,  but nothing has really helped.

Yes, ciu forums are interesting to read through on the general section at night lol

Feel for a fellow night walker 😁
Power naps can certainly be good, 20-25 mins and no longer. Its also been recommended to have a strong coffee before hand.  You get the caffeine hit as you wake from the power nap, helping you slightly.

Sadly for me, any napi have during the day is counter productive as I won't be tired until around 5/ 6 am.
I used to be envious of one's who could get eight hours sleep or more.
Though I think it's worse for ones like yourself where you have constant  broken sleep, as when I'm asleep, I'm out for the count.

6 hours sleep is plenty for me. If I fall asleep at 10pm I wake at 4am, fall asleep at 11pm i wake at 5am etc. It’s not something I’m able to control, even after years of trying.

Theres two things I've found to work, in order to sleep for a full night.
Bedroom athletics with the mrs.  ::)roll  :o

The second involves drinking the spirits: whisky, rum etc and that can lead to worse addictions/problems than not sleeping great each night, so no where  near a solution. Yet sometimes it's helpful

In general I would agree with this.  With Traditional cleaning perhaps more so, compared to wfp standard residential houses unlike commercial or plenty of wfp two floors n higher type of work.
Though it might depend on the level in which one runs their business, ie sole trader compared to sole trader with employees or bigger for instance.

One thing I’ve always struggled with is falling asleep within 30 mins like most people, usually takes an hour or two for me to fall asleep but usually once I drop off I stay asleep until morning but it is very frustrating trying to fall asleep for me, my minds just constantly racing, just like now lol

How long have you been like this and have you tried calming the mind.

Yeah just thinking about the day and the following day what I need to do and just life in general tbh I’m just always thinking. I’ve been like this the last 8-9 years (I had no trouble with sleep in my teens and early twenties, I’m 32 now), always takes me a few hours to fall asleep  :-\
I will stop reading the forum now and try get to sleep 😴

That’s interesting Ralphie.

I always used to wake up feeling knackered, and feel dead by 2pm. Got diagnosed sleep apnea.

Went to see a nose specialist in London who said I should have surgery done in my nose.

They didn’t do it through insurance so I went to a specialist at Nuffield Health. They scanned me and showed me that the inside of my nose was blocked with ‘pollops’ or something.

Anyway I had surgery inside my nose to make the airways their normal size. The surgeon who done the op had also had it done, he said I would feel like a different person.

First few weeks was a bit uncomfortable and had to put steroid drops in my nose for 3 months.

My oh my what a difference! I now sleep like a baby (who isn’t teething!), I don’t snore anymore (which is why my wife made me have the surgery), I wake up feeling refreshed and have energy all through the day til bed which is about 10:30. Wake up at 6, do office work for 45 mins, have breakfast, then go to work or get ready for a day with the family.

I’d definitely recommend getting your nose checked out as apparently it’s very common but often diagnosed as sleep apnea.

I have spent three separate overnight stays in the sleep clinic and it is defo sleep apnea, it is because of a jaw issue that relaxes whilst asleep causing throat muscles to relax and choking.

I’ve have had jaw surgically pulled forward and pinned but no help.

Just have to suffer. 😭😭😭😭

But thanks for the advice.

She doesn't need it, she snores like a barsteward, keeps me awake, so I could just fookin tell her!
