Full Details - This amazing and unique tour guides visitors through all the stages involved in manufacturing a carpet from the raw fleece to the finished Carpet. It is organised through our good friends at the British Wool Marketing Board and gives an invaluable insight into what it takes to produce the finest carpets and rugs in the world.
The tour begins at the British Wool Marketing Board’s Head office and Grading Depot where they explain how the Wool is collected, sorted, tested, graded and stored ready for sale to carpet manufacturers around the world at the weekly auction held in Bradford.
After lunch the tour moves on to Howard Scouring where contaminants are removed from the wool and it is cleaned ready to be sold on to the yarn spinners.
At Atlantic Yarns visitors are shown the different methods of dyeing the wool yarn.

And on to the manufacture of woven carpets.
This tour is running on the 15th and 17th of May 2013, the days either side of the Woolsafe Educational Conference which is being held on the 16th of May. It is exclusive to WoolSafe members attending the conference. There is a nominal charge of £15.00 which covers lunch and transportation (minibus) between the venues.
