Is this an independent forum or not?
« on: April 22, 2010, 07:53:18 am »
Have I missed something? One supplier in particular seems to have the forum by the balls at the moment with a few 'members' really pushing a particular brand.
The humour of the place seems to be rapidly evaporating away at the moment. I deleted my account a couple of months back, but came back because the other forums were a little quiet. Don't like the way ciu is going at the moment. Can't see me staying much longer.  :(

Why not stay and continue to challenge and question them? So they don`t get a completely easy ride.

Please stay! We need you in the fight against "plants".

Here is a post that I would never expect to see on an independent forum:

While we absolutely love, respect and bow down to <insert supplier name> systems we understand they have overstepped the mark by persistently getting their toadies to come on the forum and say how wonderful they are.

We have asked them to remove their armies from Poland or we shall be forced to resist their onslaught like trying to stop a rutting rhino with a peashooter.

Don't mention Gardiners, I mentioned them once and got away with it; phew!  ;D

I hope this doesn't put me on the "naughty step" but hey I could do with a bit of time off from here.  :(
It's a game of three halves!

i have only just joined the forum about 4 months ago and i too am considering deleting my account it just seems the debate of wfp verses trad keeps rolling on non of it is rocket science people have made their choices of how they wish to clean windows and i for one have total respect for both types of cleaning but i am just sick of hearing all the arguments about this and ladders being banned etc i will give it one more month and if the forum carries on in this vain i will gracefully disappear
triple ladders frighten me

I agree with you totally ;D

People on here should stay and fight the good fight. There are too many people on here who don't say anything at all, and of course some who say too much 8)

In the end this is a discussion forum, and for me people shouldn't take things too seriously, as life is all about having a bit of fun and a smile every now and then.

My opinion about WFP and ladders - all window cleaners should be able to use both, as they will need to throughout their business life.

Have a good day ;D

I have hopes for this to be a professional members forum but it seems to be full of second jobbers and super nieve startups.

Keep the suppliers and sack the non professionals!

the forum is indepentant, but they need sponsor to run, the only way to make it trully indepentant is to charge  a membership fee to join,

like all things in life some one has to pay, and it is the advertisers,

the only way to get rid of them is make it members only and all pay a fee and i cant see a lot wanting to do that

Excuse the pun blue monkey but it cost peanuts to run a forums hosting, having sponsors makes you profit but gives them a lot of boot.

Read between the lines?

All new members must now add their full name and post code  :o

Post code coupled with your name gives the sponsors somewhere to send out their advertising Junk because they now know where you live.  ;)

Because you get banned.
It depends how you do it Mmmmichael ...nearly. I think people should stay and give alternatives to certain brands and products. Help people building their own system.  But do it right.
Constructive criticism and mentioning all suppliers shouldn`t be a problem and if it is......then leave or whatever.

Can you guys stop knocking Ironics!  They're a class company that sells classy window cleaning gear.  I'm a profeshunal window cleaner with more credit than sense and I am seriously considering remortgaging and buying one of their class systems so that I can brag that I am a cut above you ordinary working class scum window cleaners.

It will get me lots of big window cleaning contracts because, as you all know, 'civilians' can easily recognise the Ironics brand; it's like Kellogs isn't it?  It's a ruddy house hold name.

And I'm aspiring to be a snobby window cleaner too; so if you lads can't afford overpriced equipment; just stop yer moaning.

Also, no, I am not one of Ironics's 'plants', whateva that means.  I'm not even green!

I don't know.  I've used this forum since it started and I can honestly say I've received loads of help and advice from this place and I doubt I would've been a window cleaner for the eight years I've been one if it wasn't for the assistance guys have given me.

I've asked what's the best squeegy, how do I squeegy, what's the best soap, how does this new fangled WFP stuff work and millions of other bone questions, and answers were given to me.

Of course there were loads of jokes, micky taking and off topic posts too, but that just adds to the interest.

I like this forum and it's members, even the daft, pretentious, or downright rude posters.

99.9% of customers don't care what you use to clean windows just so long as you clean them.

I have a diy system which works the same as any bespoke all flashy state of the art and over priced systems that ALL the wfp suppliers supply, not just Ionics.

as for this forum going downhill, well we all can post what we like within reason and now they have made a few changes by offering advertising spaces to any cleaning suppliers, that is good business sense to them, and as for the suppier who is paying over £200 per month to advertise, if it is generating the business to cover this cost then the will be happy as well.

Until that is some customer comes on here and slates, either their products or after care service, then the price might be a bit to high.

As for the debate with wfp and ladders, this will go on for ever or until the next new piece of equipment comes out that makes wfp obselete.

So, who owns the forum? Someone must be responsible. Didn't it used to be that Boxhall chap?
I have a suspicion that a large firm from Swindon could be pulling the strings now......... Am I right?
