Cigarette smoke odour in car
« on: March 19, 2010, 09:08:04 pm »
I have a car to remove the odour from . The last one I did I heated the car to open the pores etc then thermally fogged it , then put the car in the shade to cool it down.

The car has been cleaned several times already. It is only 3 years old with 15k on the clock.

Does anybody have any other ideas?

Apparently the ozone could perish it, I am trying to find out if it is real rubber on door seals etc  in a car.

The technique for smoke and soot removal including odor on leather can be applied to any material.

The smoke odor is encased in sticky tar like substance and need a “prep” to degrease it in conjunction with a “smoke booster”.

Thereafter these sticky residues are clean off and rinse away.

Leather can smells better than pre-smoke contaminated condition.

Without physical contact any other attempt is futile.

i'm no expert and forgive me for questioning a master fire and flood thingy that you are but surely the difference between smoke penatrating through leather and through material is miles apart, the smoke would go through material and into the foam where as it would struggle to if the seat was leather. for instance i could blow smoke through a material seat till it came out the other side whereas i couldn't if it was a leather seat, so surely you'd need to clean the foam to get the smell out on a material seat. making your way a complete waste of time.

Also Roger , how could I physically clean the foam on the underside of the seats, clean the wires and cables under the dash, clean the air vents?

If its just tobacco , our system would be overkill. and far  too expensive.

I agree that leather surface and other car interior surfaces are miles apart, including the vents where the air circulates.

Without a surface contact with compressed air, vacuuming or chemical sponges for removal it can be a struggle.

If cleaning is base on cleaning science, result is predictable.

Otherwise it can be a futile effort.

Ozone is 03

An ozone generator is part of the tool of the trade for Smoke and Fire Restorer.

Need to know the science behind how it works to appreciate it.

Not all smoke decontamination is the same.

There are many other factors to determine the severity of smoke damages.

You may need a combination of all available tools of the trade for these kind of job.

There is also a physiological side to the problem.

Who is to argue with the customer when they say the smell is still there - "Heighten Awareness"?
