Hi, there,

I am 26,  am based in London and until now I was doing cleaning by myself. I have experience in office cleaning and end of tenancy cleaning. These are the areas I would like to expand.

I came to UK 3 years before and found it very difficult to find my way on the industry. I guess I was a bit scared to start the business properly. Recently I decided just to give it a go as I am a bit quite at the moment.

I am waiting to get my driving licence (hopefully end of July) . I started to contact more estate agents and build a database.
Also advertised in Yellow Pages and soon in Camden New Journal - local paper. I just chose small boxes as I don't have enough founds for advertising.

Can anyone recommend what else should I do? Especially because is summer and everyone seems to go on holiday.

Many thanks,
Gabriela

Hiya,

We seem to be in the same boat.

I have recently started up too, it has it's headache I know but Rome wasn't built in a day.

I suppose that it's wise not to try and expand too quickly otherwise you may have to turn down contracts, or be unable to fulfill youyr clients requirement.

Have you tried building yourself a website? Mya dvice is, don't asked these webbuilding companies becasue they charge ridiculous prices for a job that you could do you self, over a matter of days. I built my own using Microsoft Frontpage. It's not as good as pofessionally built one, but you can do quite a bit do advertise you biz.

I have desined my own A5 size flyers, than I go and get them photocopied from my local place. Much cheaper than getting them printed proffesionally. I have got alot of work from my flyers.I hate spending money on stuff you can do yourself, some companies will rip you off something chronic.

I would be interested in your database for estate agents and letting agents. As I am trying to get into the end of tenancy market.I have called them and sent out information, most seem interested, but time will tell.

Newspaper ads didn't work for me, in fact I thought that it was a waste of money. So I have invested in a reasonable size ad in our Thompson Local,it works out cheaper per month than a newspaper ad. (Would be interesting to hear how this has worked for other companies).

I must admit that sometimes I really do fell like packing it all in a going back to work, but I know that I would be letting down a very dear friend if I did that and I jusy know that she's looking down on me egging me on.

Hope everything goes ok for you, would be nice to keep in contact, it's tough when you just start out, sometimes supporting each other really helps when times are tough.

All the best

Love
Denisex
