Modifying brush to add abrasive pad.....
« on: March 10, 2010, 04:02:15 pm »
Has anyone modified a brush by cutting the bristles right down and tie wrapped / stuck on an abrasive pad or done something similar.  I'm thinking of doing something similar to give added srubbing power when normal brush it'nt man enough for facias or upvc.

Anyone else done this or got pictures??

Or is this idea mad !! :-X

why waste a brush when gardiners sell a doodlebug that fits onto the angle adaptor so you turn the brush over and you have a doodlebug, its a abrasive pad, have a look on the gardiners site and you will see it,very good price too.

just glue a strip of the "pad" to the edge of your brush

job done, no extra expense, not much work

I can't see that on their site - any more info?

Or I could just by the The 'Reach-Around' dual tool gooseneck adaptor ;D

I didn't know they exsisted.

One minor question, in the gardiners web site they call the black angle adapter a goose neck.  Do others refer to it as a goose neck as my understanding is that a goose neck is s shaped like these

Its very easy to take the shine off  Upvc with any kind of abrasive pad.
Be careful ;)

Got the "doodlebug pad" myself, complete waste of money imo.Persevered for a week, then took it off. Too big, gets in the way too often, and doesnt do a particularly good job of scrubbing either. The adapters a very simple but good idea, just need the right attachment to go with it, but the doolebug isnt it.

I cut a doodlebug in half as only needed a small pad to shift heavy soilage. Handy on new cleans heavily soiled but for normal use it can be a nuisance as the doodlebug tool restricts access in awkward to reach window areas. Also used 2 strong elastic bands to keep the abrasive pad on the doodle bug holder as without it the scrubbing pad comes off too easily.

I like Matt's idea. Cut a strip of abrasive pad and glue it to the brush stock.
