You have broken my window units
« on: March 03, 2010, 09:39:46 pm »
Hi guys

I have a customer i mean former customer who has contacted me to tell me that i had blown the seals on the upvc units, cleaned her windows for about a year and she said that evey time i clean her windows that condenation forms in the middle of the sealed units.

Both her and her husband use to make upvc windows so they are being a nightmare i think that this will go all the way to the courts even though the windows are over 5 years old and one is 9 years old

By the way the window firm who installed her windows is blaming me due to the customer surjesting it was me who has caused this proplem

Been in contact with the federations legal arm they said she will struggle to prove anything pure freedom said they are willing to back me up with technical jargon, i am already putting letters from customers to say that their windows are fine after 7 years of using this system.

She would be opening a can of worms i think if she decided to take court action

Have i missed anything out any of you guys faced any thing simalar

if she went to court, and succeeded, it would open up a whole new world of people. That have damaged windows, then hire a cleaner, then make a claim  :o

Is she saying that all the units are blown, or just a couple of them?

When you clean her windows you are reducing the temperature causing condensation to show on her already blown units. They automatically blame you 'cos they looked pretty good the day before  ::)

I think the units were already blown and us cleaning them caused a small amount of water to get drawn up into the unit

Not our fault at all

By the way she started with the words i cant afford to them fixed

if this thread it real, then all you need to do is point out what happens when it rains  ? ? ??

seriously, when it rains, water hits the glass, how on earth are they going to prove it was you and not the rain

If they used to run a window company, they should know that it has nothing to do with the wfp system.
For sealed units to blow/break down/mist is caused due to a faulty seal when manufactured, sometimes they can blow months after being installed. If they have not been glazed correctly in the frame, ie glass packers. If the frames have not got enough drainage, ie the glass unit is constantly sitting in water, and with the expansion and contraction of the frame on the unit, causes the seal to break down more quickly.
If you have an email, ill send you over some installation jargon for you to read!

Like FTP said its the change of temp.
Keep us posted on it mate.

p.s.

I don't think you have a problem. you have testimonies from your other customers and purefreedom stating they will help with the technical side.

from my experience the jets, fans or pencil are situated in the middle of our brushes, never making contact with the seals at full blast,  no more than rain would, the glass takes the full blast mainly, even at that most run at at 40psi using their flow  controlers, the question is when where the the windows installed, where the seals coming  to the end of there life span, of course the company will blame you, its the east route out

Innocent until proven guilty. Let them take you to court and try to prove you're to blame. Don't worry about it :)

I would not be worried about this, I live by the Pilkingtons Factory and a few of my mates work there, I have asked them in the past if it is possible for wfp to damage the units or even scratch the glass, because my jets are inside the brush head and the only contact with glass is plastic, the chances I scratch their glass is 1 in 10 million.

As for the seals, to make the sealed unit work, Argon Gas is pumped in between the 2 panes of glass and then they are sealed, for the insides to condense up with water is when the seal is broken and the Argon Gas has escaped.

The main reason this happens is because of movement to the house betwen daytime and night time, also when its hot and cold.

The life of a sealed unit is estimated at 10 years, so if one of her panes is 9 year old, then clearly its at it maximum life cycle.

I would tell her this and say that your would welcome her to take court action, I would mention that the FEDERATION of WINDOW CLEANERS LEGAL DEPARTMENT are backing you.

I would also point out that if she insists on telling people that you caused this damage without evidence is slander and if she carrys on then you will have no choise but to seek compensation though the courts.

I still do a custy and this guy has his head screwed on  ;) he had new double glazing fitted and I cleaned them for the first time, after I left he noticed the window misting up so the custy called the double glazing company back.

They tried to accuse me the window cleaner for causing the damage, My custy was having non of it and asked, if its the W/C at fault then are you now using inferior products? No was his reply.... Then why for all the years he's been cleaning our windows, why did he not damage the last one's that you just took out?

If Pure was the fault then I'm sure you would see many many more guy's coming on here with the same question.

I personally think that the DG companies use us as an escape goat so that they can re-charge the customer and I expect it works on a lot of custy's.

I don't think they stand a chance in court and I would like to hear the evidence they bring in from the DG company to prove that pure water rots rubber.

I forgot to mention, when Pilkingtons make the sealed unit the clean them in baths of pure water, I am sure that a multi national company would not be using something that is going to damage their products.

;D And I forgot to mention a thing my custy brought to my attention????

Why does pure water not only supposable rot the rubber that is only there to hold the window in place but the seal between the glass that is made from a completely different product?  ;)
