soft or hard rubber in the squeege
« on: March 03, 2010, 04:47:14 pm »
having just started my own window cleaning round i wonder if someone could answer me a question when i started i bought unger equipment and pulex soft rubber for the squeeges can anyone tell me when you would use hard rubber i have noticed that if the house is relatively new the blade works perfectly but just lately i have got a few manor houses where the full pane of glass is set in the stone window and the glass is old i am struggling to get them perfect the blade doesnt seem to glide over the glass and leaves tiny streaks any help would be appreciated

I think it could be the glass. On some of my older windows, I seem to get less glide.

when you get less glide does this then mean you should put more soap in the bucket to compensate or is it that i am putting too much wash liquid in the water i have been trying different ratios in a half of a oblong 2 gallon bucket how much fairy would you put in i did my own windows at home which is a relatively new house perfect every time the problem is i am striving to leave a perfect job and spending way too long at a job

When I say less glide, I mean bits missed. Like a squeegee kick, when the rubber loses a bit of contact with the glass. Maybe the older glass isn`t as flat as the new; if that makes sense  ???
I would leave your solution as it is and just go back over any missed bits with your squeegee. If you get half way down a window, go back up again without taking it off the glass. You may need to practice this.
Try blading a window off twice in one pass.

Does more rubber content give more glide ?
I always used Pulex for 20 years, cleaning two monthly but used to use ettore when doing the round monthly, the pulex seemed to have a better edge to scrape the 2 months dirt off better than the softer ettore.
