« on: March 01, 2010, 08:49:11 pm »
looking for an insurance company that covers....

liability ins, 5million
employees ins, 1 million
treatment risk, quarter of million
machinery in van, up to 25k

best so far is £799. that includes all night in van as a lot don't and also includes any businesses to work in, not like direct line who don't cover for hospitals and nursing homes and a lot of other buildings.

any one drop some names, gonna try mcgregor lloyd tomorrow or shouldn't i bother?
any others for me to try while i'm having a day for obvious reasons

Is that the norm 250k for treatment risk? think mines only 25k, also in seven years as a ltd co I have never been insured for equipment left in my vehicles, think most insurers price on turnover.  We have 10million employee and 5million public 25k treatment risk, key loss, misuse of telephones etc, employ 30 staff, ours is about £1200.00

this was with axa, quarter mill treatment, its the equipment cover that was the most, worked out at around £400 on £25k equipment. next one down was £12500 equipment cover but thats not enough for me.

Derek thats a really good deal. And don't forget Insurance companies are like carpet cleaners. They aren't all the same! Don't always buy Insurance on price. Unfortunately you don't usually find out how crap your cover is until you try and claim. Believe me I know what I'm talking about having worked in the fire and flood industry for over 16 years.

quick update so far

mac lloyd, yeah like i'm gonna unload my van every night, i don't think so. so mac lloyd a no go.

allied, better than axa but only 20k equip cover(think £20k would get me up and running if the worst happened) , sounds very good though.

just waiting for my local nfu to get back to me.

cheers guys.

Beware. You have to insure your stuff for the full cost of replacement otherwise you are classed as under insured. You don't just get a lump sum.
Many people fall foul of this, Basically if you insure yourself for less than what stuff is worth it will only be covered for the percentage of the cost.
So if you have 40k worth of stuff and you insure it for 20k then it is only 50% covered. So if someone broke in and nicked a £300 wand you would only get £150 of the insurance company.
Lots of people only find this out when they make a home contents claim and when they do they are pretty miffed, but they have only been paying a lower premium. It is your responsibility to make sure you have enough cover. Have a quick tot up round your house and you will be amazed what it adds up to. It is not unusual these days for people to have 5-6k worth of cd's and dvd's alone, then you have clothes, bedding, furniture, carpets etc etc.

Derek make sure that you get the for new cost on replacement not the current value as the price drops at 'their' valuation, also not too sure about excess and also what the cost may be if you were to have a claim.

My missus used to work for Norwich Union and before that as a motor insurance broker, one thing she used to say about was that the insurance need to know that you have modified your van ie added a truckmount to the chassis as they'll make your insurance void if you have an accident.

Derek,
I am insured with axa van and machine for £25,000 cover I had a bump in the van and had a nightmare, it took 4 months to get them to repair the van. Although you pay the insurance premiums to axa they use absolute for any part of the vehicle. It was very frustrating and imagine being without your machine for four months. The money lost and the damage to business is incalculable. I am sure that many on here will say differently but again I am talking from actual experience and not off the top of my head. My brother has 9 vans insured with the NFU and has never had anything other than complete cooperation from them when something goes wrong. We on the other hand had four months of calling people on the phone and getting led from pillar to post, it was not a good experience and one that I would not have foreseen by going to a large company like axa.  The repairers of the vehicle who I did have quite a lot of discussions with over the 3 months they had the vehicle said that most firms are the same but the best are zurich or the nfu.

lets hope the nfu come back with a good quote tomorrow, must admit, they were the only ones who asked who i was trained by. suppose thats one reason why i want an acredited hard floor course, ncca or iicrc.

shaun
i'm asking all the right questions but cheers for the heads up

john
i never shop on price, if carpet cleaning has taught one thing its value for money.
ps.. i do like to haggle though, nothing wrong with haggling once youve found what you want. maybe not with insurance robots though.

May be telling you what you already know Derek but another year older makes you another year wiser, still not sure that insurance companies will pay out on your TM as a new machine I know mine don't( CIS ) my wife interrogated the loss adjusters as she used to be one.

No ones answered yet, is 250k treatment risk the norm in cc? do large commercial jobs state a minimum treatment risk when invited to tender?

I have never been asked for treatment risk on job when quoting just for public liability 250000 is a lot of cover you would have to be cleaning a large office block or some considerable area of carpet to exceed that cover on treatment risk alone.

Just one point following on from John's comments about being under insured. With a TM, like through McGreggor Lloyd, when you insure the van and TM together, just because you put an initial value on them, of like, £45,000 as in my case. Any damage occurring, resulting in a claim for van or TM or both is settled at value, not replacement cost.
