Chair cleaning
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:29:51 am »
Hi Guys,

Bit of advice needed please, Going to quote at a primary school to clean 18 fabric chairs ( just the seats and back ) lady wants me to take them away as the staff room is being decorated which would be ok as they will fit in the van and in one trip. Majority of my work is mainly domestic so was wondering how much should i be looking to charge per chair ??? Also taking into account i have to pick up and return the chairs to the school which is going to be a 60 mile round trip for me.
All replys appreciated ;D

60 mile round trip ???

Not very economical to have such a small amount of work done at that distance, even less so for two trips!

Quote them 2 prices, make the taking away price double the on-site price.  I bet they suddenly find a way for you to do them at the school!

I would regard this job as non viable..............

What should be a one hour job is going to be extended to five maybe even six hours. If it was local might be worth while, but to collect / return over such a distance for a job that should only cost the customer around £60 would not be viable unless of course there was other work in the area.

I would too try and do the work on site..

Its a long round trip for a small job like this.

Tell them its more cost effective to do it on site..

Time you drive their and back you could have the job done as said above really

must be somewhere on site to do this the key to this job comunication with client or triple your price

I would charge £6 - £6.50 a chair,

20p a mile, as unecessary travelling involved. >:(

£5 a day storage, as if decorating and not done on site
you can bet they don't want them back immediatley. ;)

Bet they find a room you can use. ;D

£1 a mile or it aint worth the time i'd say.

If you take the chairs off site, you will need to check:

Liability insurance for working off site.

Van insurance for carrying goods.

Goods in transit insurance.

Do you need a carriers license these days for carrying other peoples property/goods? Such a long time since I did it.

Whats wrong with, as others have suggested, cleaning on-site?  Use a waterproof drop sheet with an absorbent top sheet. You could use a classroom, the Hall even a corridor.

With these type of  "conference" chairs, I'm in the same ballpark as AJB.  My prices start from £2 per fabric panel, so £2 for the seat, £2 for the back, £2 for the reverse back, then there's fabric arms at extra depending on size, typically from 50p to £3 each.  Smaller volumes like yours would be at a higher rate.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Thanks guys I appreciate your thoughts. I would also like to do the job on site all the lady told me was that the staff room was being redecorated but didn't mention use of a different room although it is a primary school so perhaps less room ??? Yes think I will have to do it there or will have to charge for all the other things mentioned i am sure she will find a space for me when i tell her the difference in price 8)
