I have just had Yell.com on the phone offering a package deal for a business listing, including listing in Yellow pages and Yell.com and a free web page that appear in the natural listings on Google, Yahoo, Ask & MSN. Have any of you used this service and did it generate enough new customers cover the cost of the advertising?

Late last year I was offered 3mths FREE to try it and see if it would work. They sent me a bill after 5weeks and said they don't do 3mths for free evaluation.

I spent 2 weeks arguing my point until by accident, I found a forum where other people had been offered the same deal. Once I told Yell, they decided to cancel the bill and supposed contract.

Of course, this is only my dealings with them, but I will never use them again.

Hi Mikey,

It is swings & roundabouts.

I have heard of people trying to increase business by having their details put in Yellow pages, but then when work has increased to beyond what they can cope with, they are fed up with getting phone calls & having to turn customers away.

The trouble being, your Yellow pages listing is stuck in a yearly printed book, & some people use these when they are years old.

Ian.

just cancelled our 'top of the page' listing that was about £900. Not one single job in a year.

I have a free line in the yellow pages and on Yell.com
my other half managed to get that, and we have the letter from them stating its free.
We have recieved a few calls from it and gained a few jobs.

I would never pay for it again.

I paid £400 four years ago and the phone never stopped ringing!
Only problem was it was scattered about the county.

Got my new Yellow Pages book through the door on Friday. The fact they got it through the letter box tells me something, years ago they were massive. I think the good old days have gone for them now.

They fit through the letter box? remember seeing piles of them laying outside buildings, or at the bottom of flats etc...

they have more than one issue of the yellow pages in each county.
In Essex the yellow pages has 3 different books.
