sill is king of all brushes
« on: February 09, 2010, 11:33:08 pm »
i have been wfp for many years, and i consider myself very experienced, i have used a few brushes in my time, not them all, but i still think the vikan sill is king of all wfp brushes regardless of what other have to say, vikan will reign until a lighter version beats it, i am 100% so confident of this brush, i challenge anyone at windex if it was allowed, any one want to challenge me, i am fed up of just trade competitions, we need a real indoor wfp window competition,  ;D

Yes - I have one too - does a brilliant job.

Biggest downside for me is the weight when having to work at an angle with long extension.

Just a bit too much strain on my trunk but probably ok for a fit lad.

For vertical work, I can't fault it.

john, always erect the pole straight up, then lower into the angle, to many folk make the mistake of erectinging the pole while lying verticle into the window, this is what causes the stress in the arms and shoulders, nothing to do with the brush,

Have to agree.

I've been using the vikan sill brush for 5 years now. I've tried others but always go straight back to vikan sill. Would be even better if they could make it a bit lighter.

Any more news on your pole hose cleaner Jouk45?

There was a lot of discussion on "another forum" some years ago about why nobody was producing a lighter sill brush - it can't be that difficult, but nothing ever came of it.

I think Gardiners were looking into it but I don't remember them ever getting very far.

I once bought one of those 'hose through' car washing pole/brushes from a local garage which look just like the vikan.  I spent a few hours carving out the back of the brush to get rid of as much weight as possible.  It was moderately successful but the bristles weren't up to much and it only lasted a few weeks.

Come on you manufacturers,  get yer fingers out :P

Hi

Thanks Jouk

I do erect the pole straight up as you advise but when I have to work to one side at around 45 degrees it becomes too much for me as I lean the pole over.  I don't have this problem with my slx and superlight.

It's a van washing brush when you're cleaning a van and a sill brush when you're cleaning sills  ;D

Has anyone seen or used the Bayersan sill brush i use the Vikan at the moment and its the best ive tried but the Bayersan looks pretty much the same an they claim is lighter but the main thing is its £14.99 and £2.90 p&p which makes it near enough half what ive been paying for the vikan worth a try unless anyone already knows its crap

At that price it might be worth getting one to chop the ends off and use on those fiddly gutter/facia cleaning jobs where a full size brush can't go.

I have one that I don't use, simply because it's too heavy.  They are excellent otherwise, you can clean all the frame, glass and sill without having to change angle, twist your wrist or anything else to scrub the sill, the angled bristles fit into the join of the verticle window and the horizontal sill and scrub both at the same time.
