Advice please - Been asked to quote for after build clean
« on: February 04, 2010, 10:35:33 pm »
Hi all

I'm due to clean the curtains and some of the carpets next week at a very large abbey, its the largest job I've done so far.

I've been sub contracted by a company that's in charge of carrying out extensive restoration work on the building.

I've now been asked to quote for the after building cleanup, I don't want to turn it down as it could be a lucrative job and could lead to some good future work.

I'll be going again on Monday to take a look at whats involved so I'll have more details then, but for now having zero experience in this area, if anyone has any guidance / tips on ANY aspect including pricing, employing casual labour etc... I'd be very greatful.

This company are very keen on the health and safety side of things, I've already had to write out risk assesments and method statements and register with the governments ' Construction industry scheme ' just to get the work, so I need to be up to speed !

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Paul

Try Pete Sweeney on 07816 276290 or pete@oakleafcc.co.uk . He has quite a lot of direct experience in this field and what he doesn't know he'll be able to tell you who you should contact for the answers to the questions you didn't even realise you had t ask!

He's a great guy to talk to.

Hi Paul you mention a large abbey keen on health and safety, be carefull on your casual labour aproach
we have done a lot of AB cleans for building companys hourly rate from £12.50 to £16.50
Taking sticky labels of windows and vacuuming from top to botttom sebo36 & henry get a good work out keep your clothes damp or you just move dust  about the place. then you start cleaning. ::)

This is probably not the job you should be dipping your toe into to see if you like this type of cleaning, using untried casual labour on what is in effect a building site is not a good practice and could land you with more problems than solutions.

We have done quite a few church cleans post restoration work, you will need long reach poles/dusters and long reach vacuums as they will require stained windows to be vacuumed, dusted and possibly washed, also high ledges, hanging lights, lots of carved wood, pulpits etc.  Also if there are bare stone floors they can take a LOT of cleaning and washing.  Possibly scaffolding as well, pews will need to be moved and cleaned.  The last church we did had just been damp-proofed and took 3 people 3 days to clean.
