my new slx30.....!!!!
« on: January 25, 2010, 08:27:30 pm »
having read all the comments on here about the slx i thought i would give one ago, so i ordered the slx30 which would cover a lot of work that i do and ive got to say......................its ok but iam not that impressed.
ok so its seems a well made piece  of kit, but from all the posts i read i was expecting something really light that i could use all day and then go home feeling as fresh as when i started...not so....
i also have a sl2 so i was expecting something as light as that.  but having used the slx on a set o 7 apartment blocks today i did the first 4 slx and then went back to the sl2 as that IS a light pole and IS something you can use allday.   dont get me wrong iam sure the slx will come in handy now and again but in my opinion the sl2 is a better buy..

Yup! After a fishing pole or modular the SLX is heavier at 30ft. And on apartments with lots of space around them then modular is brilliant.

But on domestic do what I do and ditch the biggest two sections of the SLX into the back of the van and only use them when you need to. Now you have rigidness, lightness and telscopicity (good word eh?) which IMO is faster at these heights.
It's a game of three halves!

There is one pole more rigid and lighter than the slx, the sl2.  If you have only commercial work with long runs of windows then the sl2 is easy the best pole for the job, however if you are doing domestics where you need to shorten and lengthen the pole on a regular basis then the slx is the best pole for the job.  If your used to the sl2 then the slx will feel like a tonne, not because it's heavy but the sl2 is soooo light.

I have a SL-X35 and two sections sit in the van for most of the time...And even that sometimes feels a little long and unwieldy...

So my old SL-X25 when it had been battered around and abused got cut down to 3ft 7' sections and is now as really, really handy pole....and very light.

The new SL-X with the new revised clamps and levers is fanstastic.....just my humble opinion.

I will buy another one I have no doubt.

Cheers
Dave.

It's just that I came from a fishing pole - why carry around an extra 10ft of pole when you don't need to?

Hi Gold

Out of interest - do you fit a smaller end protector onto the bottom section when you ditch the larger two sections?

SL2 and SL-X - different poles for different applications and skills.

For the employee up to 30ft height we give only SL-X. This is the rule in our company and our customers' companies in Russia and CIS.

Anyway, both of them are really great poles.

Gold is right Ian; if you can afford it get the right pole for the job

I use a four section, unless I know I need the other section(s) for the odd window, if the job is an hour long or so I will use two different poles.

Because I change house types quite often I find the poles would need to be swopped over to often wasting time, Ewan I have the right pole for my work ;) thats why I bought the 35 slx, I can hold this above my head with my little finger tip and can and do use this daily I used to use an extel pole which again I thought was lite and the slx weighs about the same yet it is over twice as long so result.

I love the slx I dont like the black hands though (before anyone says wear gloves, I don't want to wear gloves all day)

Hi gavin,  slx 25 is just under 6 foot collapsed - will work great for most domestic, only the very tightest of spaces may cause problems - use an angle adaptor for more versatility,

Vadim - nice to see you back!

I use the slx 25 everyday - much better than anything else and i can do 3 storeys so decided an slx 30 would not suit me as i would use sl2 for the higher stuff.  so maybe take out a section of your 30 ?
