time for a change
« on: January 10, 2010, 02:20:59 am »
Hello people, i have been lurking for a while now reading stuff. My other half told me about this forum she is a forum member [ lj domestics].
Any how i have been thinking of teaming up with my partner [lizzie] so that we can introduce carpet cleaning to the services her company provides. I have been valeting cars for over a decade and i've had enough of it i,m self employed and mobile, the weather has put the nail in the coffin for me. Me and a friend have a meeting set up
for monday to look at a machine it,s a cold water machine, but having read a few posts on the pro's and con's i am unsure as to what machine to go for regarding domestic carpet cleaning, under 2 grand would be nice. tia

The machine you looking at maybe a "cold water " due to it not having a heater in it. There are more then a few machines out there built like that.

It doesnt mean you cannot use hot tap water in them though.  And when I say hot - I dont mean boiling hot out of a kettle. Too much heat going thro a pump can be damaging to the pump. About 60 degree Centigrade would be ok.

And only use water thro the machine.  Its best to prespray the cleaning fluid onto the carpet (hot), use a long handled carpet brush to rub it around the fibres of the carpet, then you can suck it all up with the machine.

If the machine has only 1 vac motor in it you will find it hard work, and if you overwet the carpet at any stage of the cleaning, you may not get it all ot, meaning it takes ages to dry and might even start to smell and other problems.

Min spec is 2 vac motors each with 3 stages, and a 135psi pump.

Best vacuum the carpet BEFORE wetting it.

In my opinion i would only buy a machine that has the OPTION to heat the water as there are situations when you WILL want the option.

GOOD LUCK TONY

thanks for the replies, me and a pal should be visiting a company in aylesford on monday [weather pending] to have a look at some machines and also get on a training course, i have done a small amount of carpet cleaning [domestic] but still have a lot to learn. Having that option of hot water makes sense, any how thanks
again i will see on things pan out.

regards.

Most machines, in fact probably all heat machines have that option.
Just don't turn the heater on.

Knowledge is more powerful than any machine do a course first.
When you have done a course you will have a better understanding and more idea which machine is most suitable for you business.  :)

i have done a course but was a long time ago, so i am going on another, it would be silly not to. I can clean any type of car interior you put in front me but carpets require a slightly different approach.

John i think you will find the scorpion, prochem powermax & powerplus are supplied without the option of intank heaters just to name three.
My point was better to buy one that has got the OPION ie Heat

They and others may be without an intank heater, but that does not mean you cannot heat the water - simply add an inline heater.
And because an inline heater can be plugged into the solution hose you can get the heat generated nearer the wand.. I agree with Ken Wainwright when he says this is advantageous.
Also a lot of in tank heaters take the water up to 60 degree then cut out (pump protection), inline heater overcomes this as the water has already gone thro the pump.

The point being not produced with .
I agree Joe many different options to add hot water if required but in my opinion better with than witout to start with. As with my ninja before going tm i found it a great bonus to be able to heat water in the tank before i then passed it through the inline heater for really hot water if required
