firstly the northern countries in europe get this every year! we dont, and spending millions on contigency plans and machinery to cope with this amount of snow is a total waste of money for the UK government, as most of the machines will sit idley in depots for years at a time.
Secondly, I rate my health and safety and that of my customers before making a measly £50!!
Thirdly if you do go out cleaning and leave salt on the footpath, you are liable for any accidents that may happen on that footpath.
So with this in mind, if you crash your van on the snow and ice or one of your customer sues you because they tripped or fell on the patch that you gritted then don't come on here crying!!
For how long this is said to last for, I have enough funds to last!!
I will be out leafleting today and tomorrow, but I doubt I will get any phone calls until end of February or March time.

Matt

Another excuse
YOU are the very reason Eastern Europeans flock to Britain to work
Thank God your ancestors didnt think like you

You been smoking pot!!
What the hell were you trying to state in that paragraph???

Because you’re smart enough not to work in a snow blizzard, this alone is the main reason the foreigners are encourage to come to the UK.

Hope that explains it for you MB.   ;D

For a second there I thought Johnny was blaming ME (on my own) for the amount of eastern European workers coming over here.

He wasn't - but the snow is definitely all your fault.

Get out to work yourself, Johnny Coyle! Why is your little green "on line" indicator showing at 9.40a.m.
I am on the telephone talking to local 5* Hotels and have jobs lined up  to clear and salt their carparks and driveways for between £100.00 and £250.00 a time  ;D

Are you for real?

Jackanory comes to mind :)

More like Playschool.  Wonder what shaped window he's going to clean today.

When I went out door knocking yesterday it warmed up and sleeted a bit so the worse of the snow on roads melted,I wished i had gone cleaning instead of door knocking, but then I slipped twice on peoples drives and was glad I hadn't.fresh downfall of snow last night, had van filled and heater in there but no go again today,I will try again tomorrow.I am going to do a few half days on Saturdays so should catch up easily as I not got many customers anyway, also I am hoping to pick up work when people at home see me on a Saturday

I don't think this weather will separate the pros from the 'cowboys', but I think it'll sort out whose good at saving spare cash and who isn't.

Saying that, I'm using my overdraft right now, but its a fairly big overdraft and there's enough in there to cover January's end of month bills and food.

If I had only an inch or two fall then I would work around it, I had 14inches fall last night alone. Over the last 3 weeks it has snowed every day, add to that the temprature only getting above freezing on a couple of ocasions.

I have been out clearing snow for an elderly neighbour and my parents who live close by, but I wouldn't dream of charging for it. If some folk want to go and offer a snow clearing service then good luck, but if your able to get your car or van on the roads then tells me it's not to severe.

My overdraft period ran out and my bank will not renew it as I have just become self-employed and not earning enough,so I am having to live off my girlfriend, never been in this position before,I have always been the main or only bread winner in previous relationships, feel uneasy using her money,But its helping me focus on building my round up so I can be independant again, wanted to go to darts at pub tonight, but don,t want to waste any money  :(

Is it true Johnny that your daddy did all the work setting up the family business so that you can sit on your rear taking potshots at people on here? Sounds like a massive inferiority complex to me...

 ;D

Anyway, why don't you go and clear those hotels of snow like you were boasting about three hours ago?

It's a game of three halves!

I feel sorry for the Jocks (even though I'm not keen on Scottish people).  Its got to be tough being a Jock window cleaner; Spring doesn't arrive North of Berwick till about July.

Just a small comment to this thread,

been out , first back road my van got stuck... got it pulled out,
but i tried again further down the road.... stuck again , but got out ok...

impossible to clean window in this...totally!

delivered some leaflets, but felt cleaning windows would be the last thing on peoples minds in this stuff!.

but hoped they may save the leaflet at least..so that kept me going.

Around a foot of snow here , everywhere.

So , i am a full timer..... this weather does not seperate us from part timers.

it stops us working... all of us.

holidays, inc xmas... bad weather... all has to be taken into account in a business such as this.

money needs to be set aside for this,  it should be in your framework or business plan when setting up.

tweedledum,why do you hate jocks?

I don't, not really, its just a 'standing joke' with me that I do.  I'm a Geordie, do you remember the 'Jocks and the Geordies' in the Dandy comic?  Or was it the Beezer?  They were always fighting each other.

Anyway, I can't really dislike Jocks, since they're related to me by birth.  I mean you wouldn't have a Jock if it wasn't for a Geordie going over the border and copulating with a pig.

And that is historical fact, I think it happened in AD 201, and the Geordie was a Shield's lad who was minging drunk.
