It's probably no consolation [GQC] Tim, but the top 11 threads are about snow stopping us all working.

So far for most of the Country this is the worst winter for 30 years.

Bad times require taking drastic measures.

1986/87 was worse.  Hopefully this won't develop into something like that.

You had a car?  You couldn't have been that bad then.
It's OK.  Just joking.  I've been to the bottom too.  I kipped in my mate's dad's garage for a while (without his dad's knowledge).   ;D

Tim, you can phone the Tax Man, they're nice people (ish), and explain to them your problem.  They will let you pay your tax bill in instalments.

And as soon as you pay off the instalments, set up a monthly standing order to the tax man and just treat it like another monthly bill.

this is by far some of the best info Ive read on this forum    well done tosh
Unfortunately not entirely correct though...

I tried to get installments a couple of years ago and they wouldn't let me.

And I'd bet it was because you wernt entirely up to day with your payments.

Yes but deep down inside, the opposite of that low self-worth that comes with the nature of the beast is an arrogance coupled with your ego which makes you think you are  ;)

I do, so does Tosh, but he'll deny it  ;D

Tim,
this doesn`t help directly but it must be some consolation that weather like this occurs every 20/30 years.

Hasn't occured for 20/30 years, doesn't mean it won't happen year after year from now on, it used to when I were a lad ;D

Yup!  I deny it.  I'm currently working on getting rid of my ego, and doing a darned fine job of it too; by March I should be fully Enlightened.

It won`t.  You might have had more of it when you were a lad but every year? Your memory is playing tricks on you or you lived in Norway  ;D

I've had a look at things, and if I can properly work next week, and work everyday from crack of dawn till end of the month I should be able to make it. I really hope the weather is going to clear up next week.

Thank you so much for your help guys. I think I will have to call up the tax man, I'm just glad I've been able to pay my rent for this month and such. That's good.

I'll try and stay positive. Atleast I got three calls for quotes right after christmas, 2 are new customers now.

I tried to get installments a couple of years ago and they wouldn't let me.

There's more to this story, because when I phoned them, they were okay.  I think they wanted me to do an income and expenditure over the phone and we worked out a monthly payment.  The guy I spoke to was okay, he wasn't 'high-handed', and I paid the payments required.

I mean if they wouldn't let you pay by instalments, what was the reason?  If you haven't got the money and you can't magic it up, the tax man will take you to court and bankrupt you.

Squeaks, I smell more...

Well he'll have to bankrupt me then. I'll break his legs afterwards though...

I haven't got a pot to p*ss in mate. Job to afford food or fuel.
It's not in the slightest bit funny, as I'm on my own too, so no-one to help me out of it. >:(

Why dont you just phone them up.

Explain your situation. Be reasonable. Dont get angry.

They're not Martians. Ive been in sthum street before with tax and council tax. They are reassuringly pleasant to deal with if YOU have the right attitude.

You can ask to reduce your payments for this year anytime up until 31st Jan, i know because i have just done it.
I worked out how much i had lost due to the weather and then worked out the tax on that amount and have asked to reduce my bill by that amount.
This was calculated to be £600 which is then split into 2 amounts of £300 ( one for jan payment the other for june payment )
The down side would be if you have a bumper year and exceed your projected earnings, in which case you will be asked to payback the difference back plus a bit of interest.
But at least it might you out of a tight spot right now.
Those that post unhelpful comments should be ashamed of themselves, i'm sure we've all been between a rock and hard place at some point in our lives.

Dennis

here dennis you only have to pay twice in the one year if your tax bill is more thank 1k any less than that and its just once a year :)
