just got some silver backed foil insulation for the RO in my van, thought i would wrap it with a blanket first then go round with the silver stuff .
is this any good has anyone done this ?
then i was going to throw a blanket over the hose reel , and leave a low watt heater on all night .
cant think of what els to do to stop the freez.

The next van i get i will have the hole thing done with that expanding foam then line walls out with the ply lineing and the roof , but thats not for about 2 years.

stick a heater in the back matey. not worth the risk. we get through loads of ro's in the winter due to freezing

what s the best heater , ive got a 60 watt tube type thing , dont seem to throw out much heat though.

any heater. though i would not reccomend an open flame one. we use oil filled rads on the lowest setting.
remember its only got to stay above 0

ours are 1500 watt but way over the top. we get them from argos.yours should be fine mate. ours is left on the lowest setting. its only gotta be 1degree to stop it from freezing. i also know somebody that uses under floor heating cable and wraps it around his filter system.

though i do know when i researched heaters the oil filled heaters were the cheapest to run ( i say that with the expectaion that someone will come along and prove me wrong, but the research i did, pointed at the oil filled heaters being the cheapest, they were very cheap per hour )

About 9p per hour if it's the 800wat radiator, if it's the 2kw heater then it will cost about 22p per hour.

Ive bought one today it 800watt just trying it out now hope it dose not over heat it says on the
book ,not to use a extention lead ,but i have to for the van is about 9 / 10 feet from the shed.

If it's an extension on a reel,fully unwind it and you should be ok.

if you are that concearned get a heavy duty extension

BUT

allways unwind the cable from the reel, as thats what gets hot

though the 800 W shouldnt use that much juice

if you don't fully unwind it the cable could over heat and melt the insulation, which could cause a fire. That is why they say not to use an extension lead. "they're just covering their backs"

they are concerned that the power drain will make the extension cable get too hot

as its only a 800 W its not likely to happen

BUT YES unwind the cable from the reel

i once worked in a bit of a mini workshop doing joinery, we used to have loads of power tools running, once the power went, i went and checked the RCD board and it was being fed by a extension lead from the guys house   i was amazed and got on my high horse about it, you could feel the cable getting warm  BUT this was running lights, hoover ( for extraction system ) planner, chop saw, radio
