some people amaze me
« on: December 06, 2009, 09:27:55 pm »
we had some one e-mailing us for a quote for a 3 bed house, i send her our prices saying these are the prices but final price will be determined upon viewing and this is what we got back:

i just need downstairs cleaning the living romm, dining room and landing and stairs

i would like the bedrooms done as well but they have a lot of furniture so its only just one strip that you can get to as such and most of it is occupied by the bed and wadrobe

i was looking at around £50 if that is acceptable to you let me know

Perhaps you could clean the curtains and windows as a freebe; just to make sure she's really happy!!!

Better just to wave bye bye to that kind of enquiry.

I had one yesterday:

"Hi, I saw your advert and am looking to get my lounge carpet cleaned and see you live in the same street as me.  It's only a very small room, 10ft by 8ft at it's widest and isn't too bad.  Also, I don't want any furniture moving."

I then explained how I work and that normally a room of this size would be £50 but, as he's a "neighbour" and the job should be very straight forward, I'll do it for £45.

"Well, I was looking to hire a machine and do it myself for £25.  Can't you do if at this price?"

Needless to say, we've all experienced this type of customer, and all have our own way of dealing with them.  I tried my best to explain the the negatives of a D.I.Y. job and the excellent deal he was getting with me doing the job for only £45 and thought he may have been intelligent enough to understand and he then proceeded to ask:

"Ok fair enough, can you do it for 30 quid then?"

As they say in Scotland - "Away an bile yer heid"!!!

There will always be a few at this end of the spectrum. The good news is there is an equal amount at the other. Don't expend energy on these people wish them luck and move on quickly. :)

I tend not dwell on these customers but I do try to see it from their point view. It could be their first enquiry and there maybe no conception of what you do or the service you offer. I would reply re-stating your price and explain why you charge and what you do. Approx time it takes, the steps you apply, fully trained, fully insured, and the risks of hire equipment and the potential for damage etc. Write a method statement that you can have on file and just cut and paste into an email as a reply. Give a number then thank them for their enquiry and move on. It only need take a couple of minutes and it may turn them into a customer, if it doesn't you've done all you can and you've done your best.

I would always reply. Even if its to get a great feeling of putting them down (nicely). Also include an additional extra info as the post above suggested. Have this as a pre made reply so all you have to do is send it - takes a maximum of 30 seconds, and its left on good on good terms.

Our prices are as advised.

I hope you find a solution to fit your budget, but unfortunately were unable to help you this time. Please feel free to contact us in the future should your require a professional carpet and upholstery cleaning service.

Have a great day!

 ;)
