Purefreedom / Ionics / Brodex / DIY
« on: November 03, 2009, 03:12:51 pm »
Which one, The system I have priced is a fitted 650ro two man set up
Prices are
 Purefreedom     £2550
 Ionics              £5331
 Brodex             £4314
 Diy (approx)     £1200
All setups are very similar except ionics is 500lt tank not 650lt.

Myself I do like the Brodex system, looks good and 3 year warranty, but then there is not much that can go wrong as the pump is probably the only  moving part.

The purefreedom, does the job but is  too cheap or is it just a good price.

The ionics is the market leader I believe.

I could go DIY, but I am told next year, new regulations are coming in about the fitting of water tanks to vehicles, something about engineers report about safety standards. Lets face it you are carrying a lot of extra weight.

Please give me your pros and cons for each system and what each company is like for after sells etc.
Thanks
Darren

Personally i would do DIY

you are paying out a lot of money to these companies for a simple set up,

You can go to any engineering/metal work shop and get a cage welded up for around £100.00
and most likely fit it in the van as well.

Gardiners are due to bring out a crash tested van mount system (hopefully this month) about half the price of Ionics.

As I understand Brodex only have a single baffle fitted in their tanks which would put me of buying one. IMO tanks should have honeycomb baffle.

Pure water fed pole system ltd in Grantham also do decent systems.

I think Alex has quoted on here about £2800 ?

If thats right, maybe they should state it when they go on about crash testing

Looked at this system looks diy as tank looks like it is just stapped down

My son is a welder by trade, so fitting is not a problem, it is just what is best set up and after sales

Pure water fed pole system have the tank bolted through the chasis. I have one of their systems.

As I understand when brodex crash tested their system they had tank positioned so the baffle was across the van to reduce forward/backward motion, but this does not help stop water from sloshing side to side. Check with Brodex in case they have changed this.

Purefreedom all the way. They are engineers, thats what has to be your main concern. Coincidentally apart from a DIY job which is likely to invalidate your insurance theyre the cheapest.

Why do the others charge so much I have to ask.

Do you think their carsh testing was pointless then and not relevent

My van insurance is with A-plan, which give free wfp insurance but it has to be fitted properly by a wfp company.
I think ionics and Brodems look better than purefreedom , but looks aren't everythink, thank god.

i wonder who told you that, a salesperson  :P

if you can do DIY then you save yourself money, you understand how it works when / if you have breakdowns / faults etc etc

It must be better than nothing, but I would not fit a tank that had only a single baffle. For all that money they could at least baffle the tank properly

Good point, as safety is the one of the most important things, isn't that why we are all converting to wfp in first place
