Does the hose fall back out of the pole when collapsing Jo, or do you need to pull it out of the base?
you do nothing ftp, the pole works as normal at  any height, the device does it all for you, you wont even know it is there, and no grit or dirt gets the chance to pass,

ewan, it is good that you have come up with a solution, i would be crazy if i thought i was the only one to be working on this problem, i love to see other members especialy a w/c coming up with a great idea,  i am working on a professional product that folk can buy of the shelf, most would rather buy than do diy methods,  hopfully this product will meet that criteria, early days yet but i am very confident, why did you not share this before ewan, all i have seen posted regular is dirt on the pole hose on all the forums,

So Ewan when you collapse your pole how does the hose drop through the wrapped velcro?

You wouldn't be telling little porkies again would you?

It doesn’t ftp,

If you put the Velcro on the 8mm hose (firm) place near the base cap, when you extend the pole, the hose will easily pass through the Velcro all the grit will fall away, no grit will get in between the sections.

When you collapse the pole the Velcro will be on the hose where you extended to, just slide it back up to the base cap.

(Father Christmas told me this ftp)

ah mines is permenent ewan, still it is a good idea, but as ftp says it will jam in the hole unless you have several rolls around it to stop it going through the hole

I'm actually quite impressed with Ewans theory believe it or not  :o
I was going to do something similar with a brush shaped in a ring. The problem was sliding it back to the beginning every time the pole was used which could even be in between windows of a property. The same thing would happen with the velcro, plus you would need a fair sized diameter of it to stop it disappearing up the base cap hole.. Can't wait to see Jo's idea.

Jouk I did mention it can be (permanently) attached to the pole the Velcro principal is the same if you fix it to the pole, I’m sure a man of your means can work out how this is achieved, little more complex than just putting a wrap of Velcro on the 8mm hose, but still remarkably simple solution.

No ftp, read my previous post wrap the Velcro larger than the 17mm (or any other size) hole on the base cap, the hose slides easily through the Velcro, there is no tugging you won’t even notice you have Velcro on the hose about 20mm x 30mm in size, weighs 3 grams and a 9 inch strip of Velcro only cost pennies. You will notice you have less wear and no grit in between the sections of your pole.

ewan, if you put a pic up of it, folk will understand how you do it, i know what you have done, as i can picture it

thats a good pic ewan, simple but effective, but it does have its limitations, but if you need a quick fix that would be the answer. you can use an aquaruim hollow tube filter to do the same thing, and becouse it is porous, you can ad a soapy solution to clean it as it goes through,

Unless you could broaden the market for this, licensing could be a better way.
Just forget about it and let the pound roll in here and there.
For such a limited market that wfp is, setting up the manufacturing process yourself could be a white elephant.
Could it be adapted to garden hose reels? To my hosereel of microbore? I would buy one if it could easily be retrofitted to my hoze make hose reel.

yes your right mark, unless it can be made cheap enough to sell on ebay and forums ect, mark do you mean attached to the hose reel to remove all dirt as it is reeling in
