what suppliers do you use for taps, connectors etc
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:46:59 am »
I have been looking at a few of my suppliers websites, and have noticed that either some do not sell what I need or there prices are £10 more expensive on the same item which I use all the time.

I need some taps and rectus 21 fittings, and resin. Can any of you guys help out on this?

Talking about taps is there any out there that do not either lose the key are the handle breaks ?

now I dont mind paying a few pence extra for things, but £10/£3 ect imo is talking the mickey on everyday throwaway items when you need 6 or more at a time.

While I am here does anyone know if there is a cheque sorting machine you can just put cheques in and the count them up and total the amounts, as this is becoming a ball ache.

Think i got up to early this morning out of the wrong side of the bed.

I get my fittings from a local company - Hyphose. They are only around the South though. What about Pirtek? They are national.

Ian' surely you've been in the job long enough to know where to buy resin and fittings ???

If you are bulk buying then look for free postage.

these are better than taps, they last longer.
don't know why people bother with taps or rectus fittings they don't last and they,re costly. imo

Ian use these taps
http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/Hose_Fittings.html

I Get mine from a local hydraulic company and they are like the ones Alex sells, I have tried a lot of taps and to be honest most of them are not up to the every day abuse that we give them, You try Just one of those taps from Alex and I bet you £20 you'll replace all your taps with them  ;)

Its the first tap you come to on the page

Had one of them Jeff, not being negative, but the tap caught on a wall and snapped off,

could have been bad luck...but i never replaced it with the same.... once bitten and all that.

I must admit.........i'm not into plastic taps...........I'm more of a brass man myself  ;D But as alex knows.........i got an 18ft slx.........with the extra section(to make it 22ft) for as and when i require it. The simplest way for me to do this is with the orange push fit taps Gardiners sell. I really don't expect them to last me more than 3 or 4 months at a time(if i'm lucky, but i hope i'm proved wrong) but the simplicity of them really is second to none........which makes them worth the few extra bob to me............

I gotta second that. No need for spare olives, no flaffing around then they break. Just a simple "bin the old, whack on a new one" Much better when you're on the job. NO looking around for spanners, tape to seal joints etc. Cosmic pain in t 'arris that can be.

only problem with these is when you disconnect from hose you cant wash off you hands as no tap if you know what I mean.

maybe I will have to change them all over again and just get a spare tap to wash hands with as these taps I use are driving me up the wall and getting wet leg.

Why not carry a bottle or a can of water for hand washing  ???

I've been using the push fits since Gardiners stocked them. I wouldn't use anything else now. The metal ones are gas taps and can be bought from B&Q but take too long to fit- pharting about with olives, inserts and spanners.
