heated water
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:34:58 pm »
is it posible to heat the water in the tank of my van by useing the heat from the engine ,or by the van heater itself .
the ones for sale are too much money for me to buy one about £ 1,200.
if the water was heated just a few degrees it would make all the difrance to the cleaning of windows .

You would think that it would be possible to have a tank with a heating eliment built in and run it off the van battery or some sort of geni or dynamo conected to the engine.

I'm no expert in these kind of things but surley has to be a cheaper option than retro fitting a heating system.

I take it you have not got this covered on your insurance for use within your vehicle.

running hot water through your pump will damage it,the l5 is a on demand water heater goes after the pump and you can have as hot a water as you want

yes you use a calorific exchange unit - the water from the cooling system goes thru that and heats a second water system that runs through the exchange (the pure water) and heats that on the way to the pump.

you will then need to uprate the pump as most only work to about 50 C

In thoery it can work, but its going to be very expensive to retrofit. far better off using a properly installed deisel system as using lpg systems not professionally fitted and not following legal requirements will not be covered by insurance.

only if the water is boiling point , if the water is warm like how you would have a bath in its OK.

dont see how you can fit a L5 wrong ,water in water out and gas on a regulator thats the same as any basic bbQ or gass heater, and as for the insurance i still dont see the problem as you are fitting what is classed as a tempory unit as its made for using outside your not acctully moding the van are you?because if thats classed as a mod to the van so must b the complete wfp setup as it is bolted to the floor.mayb i am wrong but if you put the deisel 1 in that is a mod to the van as your bracking into the deisel tank

Thats correct, i found some info the other day, LIQUID TEMPERATURE: 180 Degrees Fahrenheit (82 Degrees Centigrade) Max, that is too hot to use anyway, so pump would be fine.

Ionics systems have hot water in tank and then go through pump so explain that one.

A while ago i tried filling the van through the DI with hot water tap and it was fine, i cant tell you if it is ok to do, but it worked fine for me with no probs.

To be honest how could it do any damage? Its only water...thats hot/warm

Sorry i just wanted to point out you WILL invalidate you insurance if you use a L5 with LPG which HAS NOT been installed professionally and been covered by your insurance.

But as most people probably dont seem to care, I will resit in trying to advise anyone in the matter again.
