Thomson Local online
« on: August 26, 2009, 09:21:12 pm »
We've had the Thomson Local rep round today.
They want to sell us their latest online style advertising through their Internet business partners. So forgetting the paper directories and Thomson Local.com online, have any of you signed up for these new styles of advertising and if so is it any good?

They spoke to me yesterday, I told them to give me 3 months worth for free and if it got the results they quoted, I said I'd go ahead.... Guess what? They said no.... So I said no too :)

I was totally confused as to what exactly they are trying to sell us. Something about having partners on the likes of Pipex, MSN and Yahoo who can drive business towards our website.

I do what Colin does. If you had something like that and you knew it worked for your Clients wouldn't you offer a free trial? If it's cack you want people to sign up blind for a year don't you?

they are all search engines.. but the majority of internet users use google! Basically they try to sell you a "package deal" and your details appear on those as paid sponsorship a bit like google ad words.

Get yourself a decent website with decent SEO and you will get your website on the front pages of them all anyway.

Personally i only use yell.com to advertise online. Its the most known of directories however google searching is becoming more beneficial work gaining work for me than the yell.com ad.

Howver i have had one job that has paid for the yell.com ad so it it brings a few more in then i suppose its kinda worth it long term.

Hi Guys

Do a search for carpet cleaning plus your local area, are Thompsons anywhere ?

Accessplace which is part of Thompsons sometimes gets reasonable ratings in low turnover areas but generally poor.

Its best to advertise on the sites which are top or even better get yours to the top.

Cheers
