Is it important to know the difference between a Wilton and an Axminster in order to clean them?

As long as we know that its of woven construcion and wool is that not enough?

Obviously we need to know how to identify a BW

VERY IMPORTANT Derek B has covered all you need to know in his posts with the possible exception of ensuring B/W is securely fitted all round.

I went to the trouble of searching out this topic for a reason, because it has been answered by one of the best known players in the game.

After nearly 30 years in the carpet industry, I can identify a BW.

However, every carpet cleaning training course I have ever been on has covered this topic and explained how to identify.

This is a good forum, with experienced guys offering time served advice, plus there is an extensive search facility.

BUT, and this is not directed at anyone in particular - GO ON TRAINING COURSES !!

I think there is some misunderstanding here.

I know how to identify a BW but my question was why is it so important to identify a traditional Wilton from an Axminster in order to clean them, why is it not enough to know that both are woven wool rich carpets and treat them as such

It's good to know though. The construction leads to expansion with these to some degree too.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Yes Derek, even though the wool takes a lot of the moisture the structure will swell in both case (one more than the other) and you could have some shrinkage and tension on the grippers so it's worth knowing. Good to tell the custy too so you luck knowledgable LOL
