Waste of time trying or not
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:25:17 pm »
Hi guys i have just had a call from a young guy who has given me this dilemma. He has spilt loads(and i do mean loads a huge tea pot full in at least 10 places)due to excess alcohol he admits of tea on a white/cream woolmix carpet(best description i could get out of him). Then he put vanish and bicarbonate of soda on scrubbed it in with a cloth before applying what he says is scotchguard. All this has ended in a right mess which he has asked me to save his skin by trying to remove before the parents(i think rather well to do) return next saturday.I am not sure if there is a magic wand in my van so any ideas greatfully received.Regards Alan(swindon)l

Part of me wants to give it a go(spend ages rinsing out the mess beforehand though) and get paid no matter what but the boyscout in me(if you know what i mean) says tell him i would be taking his money under false pretences with no real expectation of success.Regards Alan

Don't think he will need his money anymore when his parents get back, just leave him enough for a stiff drink as his last request  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Guys

Joking aside an extraction would probably leave a few tannin marks which could be removed/lightened with sodium met, might be worth a try but until you see it can't be sure.

Cheers

Hi ete:

If there's any pile on the carpet he's probably scrubbed it that much that he's distorted the pile and made it go all "Hairy".

Browning perscription may work on the tea stains but you'll no doubt be left with the permanent pile distortion caused by him.

If thats the case I would walk mate incase he tells mummy and daddy porkies trying to pin the blame on you for his efforts

Since it's Mum and Dad's carpet I'd specifically wait till they return before doing anything.

You'll get a far better answer from them as to what their expectations are and you save yourself a load of grief and get the chance to be a hero if they instruct you to make an attempt (once you have fully appraised them of the pro's and con's).

I've always avoided like the plague jobs where, for example, builders want you in to get them out of the "do-do" before the home-owner gets back. Builders most certainly do not like paying for a clean if they end up having to but a new carpet in the end.
