SL-X Warning
« on: July 23, 2009, 05:48:05 pm »
Warning to all clients who have received their new SL-X poles today.

It has become apparent during the course of today that if the clamp bolts are over-tightened too much pressure is applied to the barrel nut which can snap the nut. This did not happen to the prototype poles we have been using - it appears that the injection moulding firm changed the grade of plastic before production of these barrel nuts.

I have instructed the plastic injection firm today and they are running off another batch which are made of the original grade of nylon which has a much greater tensile strength. This will cure the problem. In the meantime be careful not to over tighten and if you do have one break, you can email me on alex@agardiner.co.uk and I will send some replacements out to you. The firm is closed until Monday morning so please use my private email above which I will be checking in the evening.

UPDATE 28TH JULY

The correct specification barrel nuts have been sent today to all clients who received an SL-X last week. If you have any queries, please contact alex@agardiner.co.uk.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

two of mine snapped today, was not overly tight. in fact reading the above was careful not to,this has dented my confidence in the pole, hope the new ones are
better and give it the longevity required for the investment made.
  otherwise good pole .

Alex why do manufacturers change things after theyve things have been agreed, this happened with your 1st sl brush,

Tell me about it.  As if there weren't enough complications in life!  Fortunately this has been remedied relatively swiftly with the barrel nuts.  In the case of the brush, they just substituted a cheaper material because they felt we didn't need the agreed on specification.  It took me nearly two months to get them to agree to replace them with the correct specification, despite having everything in writing.  The brush manufacturer was adamant that we did not need the correct specification and that what had been supplied was perfectly good enough for the job (he knew nothing about window cleaning!).  I had to threaten the Small Claims Court in the end which did work.  Needless to say we switched manufacturers and have never had such problems again.

Just a bought a new transit so i'm skint, but as soon as funds allow i will be getting another slx 22'.And some more of the brushes with the fan jets.

One of my clamps came off (see other thread) but tape has fixed it.I think the lack of positive stop and the colours for extension is a great idea.

It must be a great time, maybe the best time in your life, to see so many things you mapped out in your mind actually happen. Money aside it must be very satisfying- but i wonder about the stress, every time one of us posts, or your phone rings, you must think what now?

If you are anything like me you will be too busy being short tempered and taking it out on the family to actually enjoy the moment.Anyhow, teething problems aside, i would like to congratulate you on a really great range of products that make our job easier and more productive.

As far as I know I am not being short tempered or taking it out on the family. I will of course be more relaxed once we have fulfilled all the outstanding orders and there is world peace :)
