Failure to initialize can be caused by several different virus, They modify the relevant .exe file to run their own code first. this is why some anti virus sites cannot be viewed, as the trojan blocks them in Internet explorer,
they can also alter the anti virus software so that it cannot initialize, or cannot update itself. Or modify
firewall settings
It could be a hardware problem due to the trauma of dropping.
But once again the official Microsoft procedure is to do a repair install, theoretically if it is a hardware
problem setup should find it.
If the computer will run, then scan with Malwarebytes anti-malware first, to rule out a virus.
If the comp has a reload cd, don't use it borrow a copy of Xp to do a repair.
