I'm with Abbey and it takes forever for cheques to clear and cash 2 days.... I was wondering if any of you charge custys extra for paying by cheque

am with the natwest and pay 4 everything m8, i pay for cheques in, standinding orders, cash out.....the lot

I don't think its reasonable really with the carpet cleaning.  Have thought about it with the window cleaning where cheques can be as small as £15 and so the admin costs are a higher percentage.  (Natwest is only 3 working days for cheques to clear including the day you bank them though)

Abbey is Free banking up to a point.... Suppose I shouldn't complain

and also Cooperative if you a member of the Federation of Small Businesses.

Both free banking - BACS extra.

Did a house about 10 days ago, 3rd time since October last year. Builders were there then and still are.
Houseowners not in so I sent an invoice. 
She rings me to say can she pay by bank transfer, yes please I say - and it was transferred same day.
Thats the new quick service most banks are doing now.
Perhaps we should encourage payment via the banking system as a 2nd alternative to good ole cash.
Thing is with a cheque in your hand (mostly) its as good as paid. Asking them to do an intenet bank transfer.....well may get forgot.

There was a discussion about clearing on breakfast time news the other day. Some banks (I can only remember the Co-Op) clear the same day whereas most still don't.

I must admit though I put all my cheques in on Thurs and I get text on friday and they all show on my balance. And that's with Lloyds.

But surely that's just showing that they have been paid in, but not actually cleared ready for you to use.

am with barclays and have free banking. if you have money in the bank and dont need an overdraft no reason why you should ever need to pay charges banks are like supermarkets wait till the free period is up and just change banks. Or ask you manager for extended free terms. as soon as your in pocket with them different story.

I just swapped from Ulster bank over here who charged me for breathing to fast >:(So I swapped to barclays with 18 free months banking and £2000 worth of business software,very satisfying telling the business guy in Ulster bank to go....you know

Is this BACS in or out of the account Joe?  We get a lot of BACS payments in and is my preferred method of payment with most banks being on the fast pay system now.  It is a fairly small percentage who take their time and is easier than having to go to bank every day or 2.

Its BACS payments out. Currently with the Coop its 36p per payment with a min charge of £3.
I pay wages via the BACS system.
Direct Debits going out is no charge.
