In addition, parents who employ a nanny/au pair/babysitter directly cannot apply for a CRB check; however, if an agency supplies the nanny/au pair/babysitter, the agency is entitled to carry out a CRB check.

you have to use an umbrella company or get a care home or simalar to do it for you......

I understand they are not transferrable. So if the nursing home gets one done on you then you can't carry it on to your next job?

My wife is a social worker and her new job but same area needs a new crb check, so I guess it goes for all

Yes I have by a BUPA nursing home that I had cleaned for a couple of years. The new manageress went by the book & said she had to let me go as some convictions I had incurred a life time ago (over 20 years) forced her hand.

She's lying! Statute of limitations is 7 years.

I think you may find your wrong on that one, some things will be picked up on crb checks it depends on what they search for it is not limited to 7 years trust me

it can also depend on if it is a basic CRB check or the enhanced one

If you get it done via an umbrella body you can have your own company name on it.

But, just like a MOT its only as good as the day it was done.

So its best to get it done every year.

The basic one is pointless as it misses stuff out, best to go for the enhanced, but i suppose if you have been a bad boy (or girl) at some point it will prob be not a good idea to get it done.

lots of people on here could lose out big time for stuff they did 20 or 30 years ago that night out drunk........................convictions arte spent over so long you dont have to reveal it except for the young and the old and for security type jobs she cant let you go if it was spent 20 years ago

 There are 2 types of crb check . An enhanced disclosure CRB check will list any convictions with no time limit . It does not last for 2 yrs as a previous post mentioned it is only an indication of your criminal record up til the date of the check. The enhanced disclosure crb check also lists info held under the following

  section 142 education act 2002
  protection of children list
  Protection of vulnerable adults list

  Other relevant information can also be disclosed at the chief police officers discretion

  Rehabilitation of offenders act does not apply under enhanced disclosure.
 As well as window cleaning i also work with vulnerable adults and children and these crb checks are compulsory.

  You can apply for for a copy of your own crb disclosure.

CRB checks do last 3 years, I had to have them done in my previous employment (care worker) lucky enough my mum is the director of my previous job so I can still get them done (due now) and it cost me about £50 for full one, I do know that when my mum employes new staff even if theyve had a CRB done in the last 3 years it counts for nothing and a new one needs doing, also if your only doing externals of nursing homes etc you dont need one but of your doing any internal windows to residents of the homes rooms (bedroom) the manager/director etc by law has to get you CRB checked, internal of nursing home communal areas, restaurants etc doesnt count.
