Google never call you.  Simple, they are telling porkies if they claim to represent Google as well  :o

Clinton

As mentioned above Google never call they make enough money without pestering folks for more.

The people calling you are not from Google.

I know this as I have already been fooled and taken for close on £500

Just Google Internet Perfection and see,  http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=21336077
When they have called you 10 times and your just about to say F*^ off chap they give you the line "well why not run with us for 2 weeks for £20 and see how good it is and if your not satisfied you don't have to pay any more ( my arse you don't) . And like a pratt you say yes and hand over all your card details. Then at the end of 2 weeks they call and ask the question what do you think ? like me you'd say well chap my site is where it always has been on page 10, they say I'll look into it for you then draw a further £345.00 out of you account and there is very little you can do about it as I found out. The bank don't see as fraud because you gave them your card details in the first place.

Hi

I had a call yesterday from Yahoo (supposedly) offering me top position on their listings (it goes on a loop apparently) I cut him half way through the sales pitch for a price, £345 for 6 months for top position.

My question was what if 10 people all pay up, how do you put us all at the top?

Hi Guys

I have had my fair share of these con merchants ringing up claiming to be from Google, it's easy enough to spot them, Google won't ring you unless your doing adwords and you contact them.

I also get loads of emails telling me my site doesn't rank very well and they can sort it for me, these sites are often No.1 on Google so how they are going to improve on that  ::)

I also had some idiot ringing various people on my sites, claiming to be from Google, that lot got passed on to the relevant authorities.

There will always be scams and I strongly recommend any of you guys who are thinking of signing up for something, to post it on here and see what the boys have to say.

Cheers

Doug

What was the charge Clinton.... I reckon it was £100 permonth for 5 key phrases.

Will get you onto page 1 of google in 48 hours.

It will do what they say....so if you just got a web site that isnt up there yet, then this could be a filler in till the natural one does perform.

You probably dont need it.

if you type these idiots numbers into google search, you will find that 90% are from a company called customer street.
even if it was free i'd tell them to shove it.
complete waste of time.

Will make myself unpopular here by playing devils advocate a little. Google or yahoo themselves wouldn't call you, however both of them 'sub-out' (for want of a better phrase) their advertising.

E.G. Yahoo has Yahoo directories which is ran by a number of independqant companies. Whilst we don't advertise with them now, we have in the past and whilst we havent had much response (everyone uses google so yahoo pointless really!) we were always well listed and had sposored links all over yahoo for our area.

Google is a little different as technically it is not a directory but an encyclopedia. Their way of generating their revenue is by sponsored links. Rest assured, these do work if you know how to use them but it will NOT be google contacting you but another outsourced company.

Any company who says they will get you on page 1 of google in non-sponsored links i think is telling porkies - you can only do that by adjusting the content of your website, not by paying for anything.

Just want to say, while we don't use google much for advertising anymore, it does work if you have the time anf effort to spend on it. Give yahoo a miss though! Might work in the US but not here!

That is probably of no help to anyone but anyhoos!
