which camcorder
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:41:42 pm »
not expecting many replies to this, but before i go and get a pro to do my promo video, thought i'd give it a bash myself, ive got 4 commercial jobs coming over the next 10 days so i can get some good footage. i only wanna spend between £100 and £200 quid on a camcorder but am confused by what would be best for a simple promo video.
if anyone has any help on whats the best camcorder for that budget price then let me know.
or any good editing software thats knocking around.
couple of mins of video footage coupled with some before and after pics thrown in, a music track in the background and a voice over comentary is all i need it to do.

help!

cheers for that mike.
unfortunately the reviews say its got poor indoor quality (picture wise). i think thats why i probably will have to spend a bit more. there loads in argos for under £200 but ive no idea which would be best. think i'll pick a few then go onto that site you just showed me and read the reviews, sounds like an excuse to crack open a few, sit back and read to i can't focus ;D
cheers again mike

Why dont you phone the uni in liverpool as am sure some students there will be glad of the hands on experience of helping.

It also goes on there portfolio.

And they get the experience.

You wont have to clean the uni.

Just give the the students a few quid and i think there is a board on the uni web site to get the people you need???

Its worth a try as  guy i did some cleaning for hired them to do some design on clothes etc..

No worries Derek,

If you see any that you fancy go to this website to see what it's like. They've got most things reviewed here

http://www.trustedreviews.com/camcorders/.

You can spend many hours on this site so you better get plenty of tinnies in.

I'm happy with my Panasonic SDR-S26 £199 from Amazon - records onto SD card so you can just film, put the card in the computer and watch or edit.
It's good indoors too with just the lights on.

As for editing software, just use windows movie maker, which is included in xp and vista.

Just to add to that, you will have a pig of a time with a MSOFT multi media product if your camera records in .MOV / Quicktime format. Can't think why  ;)

Derek when you get your camcorder you will need editing software. Windows has its own (Windows movie maker) but its basic and if Im honest pretty buggy! I recommend Power Director which is excellent. You can do a multitude of things with it including pro looking transitional effects and it has a whole host of editing features!

Have a look here...
