Andy,
Been going 20 years (with a couple of years break) Only thing I ever got on a regular basis was some sort of inflamation in my shoulder muscles.

Doc gives me antibiotics for a couple of weeks and it's gone. I get it from wet cloths over the shoulder.

I know alot of windies that are over 50, still going strong.

The only real pains are the ones you get on this forum. ;D

In that case Mike, beer must be good because I drink loads and I eat loads of pizza, haven't got any aches and pains, so that must be just as good as fish ;D

DRINK MORE BEER!!

You know it makes sense. 8)

i think it's definetly the knees
gut i use to work for just given up had to have new knees

he'd been doing 35yrs window cleaning trad.
but also know w/c who's nearly 70 and been doing for 18 yrs trad.
he use to be good footballer and suffered lot of knee grief

he actually reckons his knees are alot better since being w/c ???

i think it's luck of the draw
i think if you keep to your fighting weight this is the best you can do.

being overweight causes extra wear and tear on back and joints :(

i'm 6ft and weigh 14-14.5 stone i reckon i'm a good stone over :P

i'm wfp and do suffer with acheing lower back this is due to trolley system(lifting barells)

my setup is at my parents and have to load barrels; 10 of into my escort van(can't park on front :'()

just bought sack trolley as was too much carrying.

Can't wait to move into a bigger house, but can't afford bigger house until earning more, van mount system, can't get van mount till i move
 ;catch 22 ;D

It was the beer that has caused me the only on-going injury I have...a pulled Achilles tendon.

About a month ago in Gravesend peeing it up with some mates, we all came out the boozer drunk as lords and yours truely (for reasons unknown) decided to jump over the 2ft wall in the carpark...6ft drop the other side!

Went to the Doctors and he said not much can be done except to rest it as much as possible...in this job?...yeah righto ::)

The only other time I've hurt myself was tripping over a plant pot and twisting my ankle.

I suspect that RSI is more likely with wfp.

Where do I start ;D Got really bad tennis elbow in my left poling right handed. Imagine the action. I now swap between left & right handed and it's slowly getting less sore. Lots of trad gives me shoulder pain. Basically it's a very hard job on the body due to the repetitive nature of the actions both wfp and trad. Still love it though ;D

Golfers-Tennis elbow,

1,Use a SL modular pole for all the work you can.
2,See a pysio and get them to work on the rear shoulder muscles and upper back muscles 9-10 it`s because the muscles are seized in the shoulder and back that it ends up in the elbow rather than being the elbow itself.
3,If it comes on at all wear a golfers elbow strap and i mean whenever it starts to play up.
4,Get an elbow support strap and wear it in bed on the arm effected, these are not the same as golfers elbow straps they support the upper arm and forearm,i found during the night i`d wake up with my arm under the pillow and this would really start it off and make it worse from the minute i woke up.
5,It will get better if you have phisio and stick with the above believe me i had it bad for over a year and with the above research it`s almost coming to an end.

Another thing which also really helped was going back to Microbore from minibore,i could not believe how much difference it made on the elbows, there is a big difference in feel if not weight of the 2 hoses especially when reeling in,try it you`ll be surprised.

I thought you were actively getting trad. trippy?

As said above - luck of the draw and weight.

When I was trad I started off at 6ft and 16 stones (back in 1996) aged 37.
My knees ached. I slowly lost weight to about 13 st 7lb and the pain went away (well 35lbs less is a big drop!)

Went to wfp 4 years ago (trolley plus Unger twist lock ali poles) - no aches from barrel lifting or pole use but aches in the hands due to twisting the clamps on the pole.

Went to fishing pole - so much lighter - no clamps - no aches at all.

Weight crept up to 14st 7lb and the knee aches came back (no ladder work now mind) and have now dropped back under 14st and the aches have gone. (Aiming for 13st now).

Bought an SLX six weeks ago and for the first week used it in it's entirety (5 sections) - and it was heavier than the fishing pole (as on that I only used the sections needed of course) and I got the odd ache. Now use the SLX on 3 or 4 sections for most of my work and it is pain free.

I'm now 50 and feel fit. But luck of the genes comes into it I'm sure - neither of my parents suffered with joint/muscle probs (Just Cancer, Heart disease and diabetes! ;D)

Oh - I also cycle a bit for fitness sake as well - about 30 miles a week in two sessions of about an hour each.
It's a game of three halves!
