PEUGEOT EXPERT 2.0 HDI FRONT BREAKS BINDING????
« on: February 24, 2009, 08:10:20 pm »
Well this is becoming quite costly, the complete break system ( break cylinder, hoses...etc etc ) has been replaced except the calipers ( on account of 6 mechanics insisting there was NOTHING wrong with them ) and its still binding. Has anybody else had this problem?

Its binding intermittently, and will release after a few minutes..... it's driving me crazy. Ive spoken to loads of garages and experts including 3 peugeot garages. Nobody knows what is wrong.

When the breaks bind they will either release or you can stop the engine, push the break pedal hard to the floor ad that will usually do the trick.

This is driving me nuts!!! There's another possibility, that the abs is causing it, but the abs sensors on the front hubs have been changed!

Well, its certainly a very rare problem ( thats costed me hundreds upon hundreds ) anybody have any experience

My scudo, which has peugeot running gear has a problem at the moment.

When accelerating, it suddenly hits a flat spot, kangaroos and kicks out some smoke. When on a straight run say at 50, it does it loads then gets a diesel rattle after.
Took to an independent, nothing showiing on the comp, so changed the fuel  filter, still the same.

Took to fiat, they ran diagnostics, nothing came up, and when i asked what do you think, they shrugged their shoulders!!!

Going to another independent on friday.   Those main dealers dont know a thing!!!

did they bind before the work was done or were the discs etc changed because of the binding?

I had this sort of problem with my relay 2.0hdi, garage said needed new calpiers and want near on a grand with new pads and disks, I had the calipers cleaned and refitted with new pads and disks for about £200, problem solved, some garages will say they cant be fixed, they can. My wheels were getting very hot was the main reason I found out

Where your brakes actually binding on in a similar way to miine? on my van, the drivers side is binding worse. Perhaps it really is the calipers, despite 6 mechanics insisting otherwise! Well, hopefully some more people can add their suggestions, thanks for all your help so far!

Ive found a site with people with very similar problems ( changed entire, or near enough entire brake system, with no luck ), but a guy suggested the rod from the pedal to servo ( replacing or getting adjusted )

A couple of guys with exactly the same problem as me did this, and solved the problem, this is most likely my next step

I will keep this topic updated as hopefully it will really help a member from spending the amounts I have on the brakes!!

Yeah mine was on drivers side more and was doing my head in as did not happen all the time, as the van was going slower, and fuel was going down quick yet not getting very far fast. The hot tyre was the worst thing, at leave if you have a look at the calipers if it is not that you can rule it out, one goodvthing is for sure once finished your van will have a great braking system  :D

mmm, I dont think the Peugeot and words great braking system go hand in hand!!! I used to think this was a great van....im having my doubts. Why cant they get something as simple and as important as the brakes built properly! Its shocking.

Im starting to hate French vehicles

My sl-x is a 25ft. The new ones are 30ft. I can only vouch for the older one, which is brilliant, but Im sure the new one is close or even better, given Gardiners brilliant track record. Regarding the brush, yes use Gardiners own brush, it:s very very good, but an even better option would be a converted Tucker pole brush ( but will cost around £55 )
